Funding for translation and proofreading services

The Bauhaus Research School funds the international visibility of the research achievements of our young researchs, artsits and designers. We provide grants for the use of translation and proofreading services for foreign-language texts of publications for doctoral candidates of the Bauhaus Universität Weimar.

Applications can be submitted anytime until 15. November of the current calendar year.

Who can be funded?

Only doctoral candidates enrolled at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are eligible for funding. The prerequisite is the acceptance for the doctorate by the Doctoral Candidate Admissions Board of the respective faculty. Doctoral candidates who have already completed the oral examination as part of their defense are no longer eligible for funding.

What can be funded?

  1. Funding will be provided for texts that are envisaged to be published by the applicant as main author in a language other than his/her mother tongue.
  2. The following text forms can be submitted for funding: Articles (full papers), extended abstracts, essays, reviews in journals, monographs, contributions to collective works, conference contributions and publications in connection with exhibits. Doctoral theses are not eligible for funding.
  3. The envisaged publication must have comprehensible relevance to the doctorate.
  4. The maximum funding available is max. 300,00 Euro for translations and max. 200,00 Euro Proofreading Services.
  5. The Bauhaus Research School does not award funding for any costs also being covered by third parties. The applicant is obliged to inform the Bauhaus Research School of any other funding awarded and/or approved or denied by third parties (e.g. faculty, foundations).
  6. Funding cannot be awarded for publications relating to projects commissioned by third parties.

How can I apply?

Applications (in German or English) can be submitted by using the online form with document upload. The signed CV of the applicant must be attached to the application as a PDF file via the file upload of the online form. In the case of joint publications, the first author must be the applicant.

How will the funding be awarded?

Depending on te availability of the funds, the Bauhaus Research School decides about the allocation of the funds after receiving the application. Applicants will be informed of the decision by e-mail. The budget principles of economy and cost effectiveness apply.

Funding criteria:

  1. Relevance of the publication to your doctorate
  2. Need for proofreading or translation
  3. International focus of the publication medium
  4. Availablility of the university's budget
  5. The principle of funding diversity applies (funding of various doctoral candidates instead of funding of two and more publications of one doctoral candidate).

What do funded doctoral candidates have to submit for the funding disbursement?

The grant awarded will be reimbursed after duly submitting the corresponding original invoice and proof of submission of the publication. Proof of submission can be emailed to ipid[at]uni-weimar.de,  by post or in-person to the Bauhaus Research School, Dr Franziska Matthes, Marienstr. 14, 99423 Weimar, Germany.
