It was a great benefit to get to know other Ph.D. students from other faculties of the University.“
The respect, the dedication, and the big support for all mentees.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers two different mentoring programmes for doctoral students and postdocs. Generally, the call for applications for both programmes will be opened during the winter term every year.

Both mentoring programmes are designed as a combination of individual and peer mentoring. The collaboration and exchange with the mentors, who teach and research at other universities and higher education institutions in germany and abroad, focuses on promoting the individual development of the mentees as well as the advising and accompanying their planned career. The mentors are sought out according to the mentees' academic backgrounds and desired fields of work.
In addition, the young scientists, artists and designers come together in groups to exchange experiences and carry out activities within the peer group. Complementary networking and information events, as well as workshops for career planning and competence trainings are also organized for all mentees.

The mentoring programme thrives strongly on the willingness of the mentees to participate in the framework programme, to participate in the peer groups and to help shape the activities within the group.

Benefits for mentees

  • learn more about the structures, processes, and rules of academia or other fields of work by working together with mentors, guests, and other mentees
  • informal exchange with mentors working in your envisaged working field

  • incorporate your ideas and needs in workshops, information and networking events (e.g. fireside chats)
  • support to develop an professional network
  • develop strategies to reconcile career and family or dual career couples
  • insight into other disciplines
  • Financial support for a trip to the Mentor is sought depending on the number of mentees and the availability of funds.
