FAQs

FAQs Calls for applications for the funding of translation and proofreading services

General issues

1. May I apply only for one or for several projects?

You may apply for all three funding formats of Bauhaus Research School.

2. I have already been granted an IPID4all scholarship. May I apply again?

Applications of doctoral candidates who were not funded during the current calendar year are preferred, doctoral candidates who have already been funded in 2019 for the commissioning of a translation or proofreading service by IPID4all will be considered subordinately.

3. I have been granted a scholarship by Bauhaus University Weimar. May I still be funded?

As far as your scholarship agreement does not provide for the funding of translation or proofreading services, you may be funded by the BRS.

4. I have been granted a DAAD scholarship. May I still be funded?

Yes, you may, as long as your scholarship agreement does not provide for the funding of translation or proofreading services.

5. The graduate admissions committee has not admitted me to the doctorate. May I still apply?

The graduate admissions committee must have admitted the candidate before the application for funding.

6. Being an employee of the university, may I be funded?

Yes, you may, as far as you are a doctoral candidate at Bauhaus University Weimar (on this see Issue No. 5).

7. What is meant by "providing evidence of the kind and amount of external funding or applied for external funding"?

WE can only fund those expenses which are not completely or partly funded by third parties. This is why we need evidence of which expenses are funded by third parties. A letter (or an e-mail) by a funding third party may go as such an evidence.

Call for Application for Translation and Proofreading Services

8. What is meant by “connection to the doctorate project”?

The funding is meant for supporting you as a candidate. Your publication must produce a clear added value for your doctorate project. This is the case e. g. if part(s) of your doctorate project will be published.

9. May I apply for the funding of my dissertation thesis being translated or proofread or of a summary of my dissertation thesis ?

We are sorry, but this is not possible at present.

10. Are expenses for the printing and binding of the dissertation thesis funded?

No, they are not. However, you may apply at the Bauhaus Research School for a printing costs subsidy.

Who is funded?

11. I am an external doctoral candidate not living in Germany. May I still apply for the funding of translation or proofreading services ?

Yes, you may, if your doctoral project at Bauhaus University has been accepted by the graduation commission of your Faculty.

Choosing the translation/proofreading service

12. Who chooses the translation/proofreading service?

Being the funded person, you are yourself in charge of choosing the services provider. The online database of the Bundesverband der Übersetzer und Dolmetscher e. V. (Federal Association of Translators and Interpreters) (http://suche.bdue.de) may be helpful for your search. It provides the contact data of more than 7,500 qualified interpreters and translators in Germany.

Application and documents

13. May I apply several times?

In the context of one call for applications you may apply only once for the funding of translation or proofreading services. However, you may apply parallel for several funding formats of the Bauhaus Research School.

14. Until when must the application have been received?

until 31 March 2020

Payment

15. When will the funding be paid?

Payment happens after having presented the original invoice to the Bauhaus Research School as well as the proof of submission of the publication. This may be done via e-mail to ipid[at]uni-weimar.de.

16. Who will be paid the grant?

The grant is paid to the funded person and not to the translation or proofreading service.

17. My expenses have been higher than the funding. Will I be paid more?

No, you will not. You will only be paid the maximum grants as being specified in the funding commitment.

18.What must be included in the invoice?

The invoice by the translation or proofreading service must include the VAT. If it is a small enterprise having its seat in Germany, § 19 of the German VAT Act is valid. The invoice has to addressed to you as funded person by using your private address.
