On Wednesday, 31 May 2023, the Equal Opportunity Office and the Department of Human Resources Development and Health Management invite you to attend Family Day on university campus. Whilst the wide-ranging informational and entertainment programme is intended to appeal to all members and affiliates of the University, we wish to show our special appreciation for students, doctoral candidates and staff – particularly those with children or care responsibilities. Staff, in consultation with their respective superiors, can claim time spent at Family Day as working time; in this way we hope to ensure all staff have the opportunity to participate in the Family Day.

Starting at 6 pm on Thursday, 11 May 2023, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will for the first time be celebrating its student volunteers for an entire evening, offering all interested members of the university the opportunity to talk to each other in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. Together we want to celebrate the voluntary engagement of students, something that is often not recognised.

Beim bundesweiten Wettbewerb für innovative, digitale Lösungen in der Bauwirtschaft »Auf IT gebaut« erzielten die Weimarer Absolventen Phil Niemeyer und Felix Roder in der Kategorie »Architektur« sowie Niklas Haschke in der Kategorie »Bauingenieurwesen« jeweils den ersten Platz. Die Arbeiten widmen sich wichtigen aktuellen Herausforderungen der Baubranche: der Digitalisierung, dem kostengünstigen Bauen und dem Erreichen der Klimaschutzziele. Die Preisverleihung fand statt am 18. April 2023 im Rahmen der Weltleitmesse für Architektur, Materialien, Systeme »BAU«.

The business world and society are currently in the midst of a digital transformation. From summer 2023, the »Bauhaus.Mobility Hub« will make a variety of support services available to Thuringia-based companies and public institutions to enable them to take advantage of the opportunities digitalisation brings with it. The transfer initiative is coordinated by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and connects Thuringia with a new, European network of digitalisation centres. The European Union and the Free State of Thuringia are funding the regional centre with the aim of generating local impetus for digitalisation.

Students at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar actively shape the university through committee work and shape the city through various initiatives. Students can submit nominations for this year’s committee elections until 14 May. Elections will be held in June.

Each year, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar announces a new Bauhaus Guest Professor. For the 2023 summer semester, the university will have the privilege of hosting Professor Jane Bennett, who is the Andrew Mellon Professor of the Humanities at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, with appointments in the Department of Comparative Thought and Literature and also in the Department of Political Science. The focus of Bennett’s work lies in political theory; her research interests include ecological philosophy, political thought in the United States, political rhetoric and belief, and contemporary social theory.

Die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ist die Kulisse der neuen Serie »Irgendwas mit Medien«: Im Zentrum steht das selbsternannte Wunderkind Lennart (Mirko Muhshoff), das sich in seinem ersten Semester von einem Fettnäpfchen zum nächsten navigiert – und dabei auf Schritt und Tritt von einem Filmteam begleitet wird. Nicht nur das Medien-Studium stellt den jungen Mann vor absurd-komische Herausforderungen, sondern auch das Erwachsenwerden. Die Mockumentary mit großartigem Fremdschampotential gibt es in der ARD Mediathek zu sehen.

Als »Best of Best« der Newcomer kürte der Rat für Formgebung am 17. April 2023 die Produktdesign-Alumni Julia Huhnholz und Friedrich Gerlach für ihre Abschlussarbeit »The Essence of Biocement«.

Am Mittwoch, 26. April 2023, startet an der Fakultät Medien die von der Professur »Geschichte und Theorie der Kulturtechniken« organisierte Ringvorlesung »Andere Kulturtechniken«. Immer mittwochs im Sommersemester 2023, um 19 Uhr, stellen international renommierte Wissenschaftler*innen neue Ansätze der Kulturtechnikforschung vor.

A century has passed since the State Bauhaus presented its work to the public for the first time in a major exhibition. The »Bauhaus-Ausstellung« (Bauhaus Exhibition), whose reputation reached far beyond Weimar, was held from 15 August to 30 September 1923 and was a magnet for countless artists, intellectuals and art aficionados of the time. The exhibition solidified the international reputation of the art school.

Zum bundesweiten Girls' Day am 27. April 2023 bietet das Gleichstellungsbüro der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar einen Workshop sowie Kennenlernangebote rund um die MINT-Studiengänge der Universität an.

Mirko Muhshoff und Jano Kaltenbach experimentierten lange vor ihrem Studium der Medienkunst/Mediengestaltung im Medienbereich und entdeckten darin ihre Leidenschaft für »Irgendwas mit Medien«. Dies führte unweigerlich nach Weimar an die Bauhaus-Universität. Insbesondere das hier etablierte Projektstudium und das freie Arbeiten haben überzeugt. Es verbindet die begeisterten Filmemacher, Drehbuchautoren, Schauspieler und Regisseure jedoch viel mehr mit Weimar.

From 6 p.m. on 17 April 2023, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will host a very special event for all interested parties, namely a rare opportunity to speak with a Holocaust survivor and former inmate of Buchenwald concentration camp.

Im Oktober 2020 startete an der Professur Marketing und Medien mit »brandY« ein Vorhaben von insgesamt 11 europäischen Hochschulen. Ziel des Projektes war die Konzeption, Testung und Implementierung eines interaktiven Lernprogramms zur internationalen Markenführung. Vom 27. Februar bis 3. März 2023 konnten nun sechs Studierende aus dem Masterstudiengang Medienmanagement in Annecy innerhalb eines Intensivkurses eine erste Version der Anwendung testen und weiterentwickeln.

Das Institut für Europäische Urbanistik an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar lädt herzlich zur Fortsetzung der Weimarer Stadtgespräche ein. Im Jahr 2023 liegt der Schwerpunkt auf den Herausforderungen und Potenzialen der Verkehrswende in Weimar und Umland. In vier Veranstaltungen diskutieren Expert*innen aus Wissenschaft, Politik, Zivilgesellschaft und Praxis, wie die mobilitätsgerechte Stadt erreicht werden kann.

From 23 March to 1 April 2023, 118 students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and its European partner universities will take part in the second Bauhaus Spring School. In five courses on architecture and urbanism, media and culture, participants will have the chance to work together intensively on joint projects. This ERASMUS short-term programme began in the 2022/23 winter semester with online courses and will now continue with a ten-day in-person phase in Weimar.

The German Federal Government is hoping to relieve the financial burden on students and trainees through a one-time lump sum energy payment. Students will soon be able to apply for a one-time energy price allowance (Energiepauschale) of 200 euros. The plan is scheduled to begin on 15 March 2023. Nach drei Jahren pandemiebedingter Pause werden am Montag, 20. März, und Freitag, 24. März 2023, mehr als 400 Zehntklässler*innen der gymnasialen Oberstufen der Gymnasien der Stadt Weimar und des Weimarer Lands zu dem Gemeinschaftsangebot »Wissen erobern. Schüler*innen entdecken Weimarer Bibliotheken« im Audimax der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar erwartet. Mit dem Projekt soll den Schüler*innen Hilfestellung bei der Bearbeitung von Seminarfacharbeiten durch öffentlich zugängliche Bibliotheken gegeben werden. Dabei dreht sich in diesem Jahr alles um das Thema »Klimastreik«.

On the same day that his term began, the new President was able to chat with members of the university: On Wednesday 1 March, a »Meet and Greet« with Peter Benz was held to toast to a prosperous cooperation. The event was also intended as a heartfelt thank you to President (interim) Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes, who led the university though particularly challenging year.
