Social Imagining: Researchers at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Successfully Took Part in the New »Imaginamics« Cluster of Excellence

Yesterday evening, 22 May 2025, it was confirmed that the »Imaginamics. Practices and Dynamics of Social Imagining« Cluster of Excellence, submitted under the leadership of Friedrich Schiller University Jena, has been awarded funding within the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments. This is also significant for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, which is involved in the project through three of its leading researchers.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar lädt zum UNESCO-Welterbetag 2025 ein

Zum 20. Jubiläum des UNESCO-Welterbetages laden die 54 Welterbestätten in Deutschland am Sonntag, 1. Juni 2025, zum gemeinsamen Entdecken und Erleben ein. Unter dem Motto »Vermitteln, verbinden, begeistern« feiern die Deutsche UNESCO-Kommission und der Verein UNESCO-Welterbestätten Deutschland den Aktionstag mit vielfältigen Angeboten. Mit dabei ist auch die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: Auf den Spuren des frühen Bauhauses können Besucher*innen die Welterbestätten in Weimar erkunden.

Der Wissenschaftstag 2025 in Bildern

Was bedeutet Nachhaltigkeit in Forschung und Lehre, in Kunst und Gesellschaft? Unter dem Titel »Was heißt denn hier nachhaltig?« widmete sich der diesjährige Wissenschaftstag an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar am Mittwoch, 21. Mai, genau dieser Frage. In fünf spannenden Vorträgen beleuchteten Wissenschaftler*innen dieses komplexe Themenfeld aus unterschiedlichen fachlichen Perspektiven. Das Publikum war eingeladen, über einen Begriff nachzudenken, der allgegenwärtig scheint – und doch immer wieder neu gedacht werden muss.

BEYOND NOW: Between Firs and Fiction – Shaping the Thuringian Forest in the Face of Change

The Thuringian Forest is a myth, habitat, recreational area, and economic factor – but how much of it is left in times of climate crisis, urbanisation, and demographic change? What kind of future can be developed in this symbolic landscape in the former Green Heart of Germany? The »Landscape in the Anthropocene: Thuringian Forest - Between Imagination, Resources, and Reality« project is seeking to answer these questions, specifically in the Masserberg region.

CHE-Hochschulranking 2025: Spitzenplätze für Bauhaus-Universität Weimar im Bereich Architektur, Bau und Umwelt

Im aktuellen Ranking des Centrums für Hochschulentwicklung (CHE) erzielen gleich mehrere Studiengänge der Fakultäten Architektur und Urbanistik sowie Bau- und Umweltingenieurwissenschaften der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar hervorragende Ergebnisse. Insbesondere die allgemeine Studiensituation und Organisation sowie die Unterstützung und Ausstattung der Hochschule wurden von den Studierenden sehr gut bewertet. Veröffentlicht wurden die Ergebnisse im Mai 2025 im ZEIT Studienführer und dem Online-Portal HeyStudium von DIE ZEIT.

Vortragsreihe »Auf die Schiene kommen« – Auftakt am 22. Mai 2025

Im Rahmen des Bauhaus-Moduls »Auf die Schiene kommen« lädt die Professur Entwerfen und Städtebau herzlich zur Eröffnung einer Vortragsreihe ein, die sich mit der nachhaltigen Transformation von Bahnhöfen in den Niederlanden befasst. Den Auftakt macht am Donnerstag, den 22. Mai 2025, um 18.30 Uhr im Bauhaus-Atelier ein Vortrag von Pascal Cornips vom renommierten Architekturbüro Benthem Crouwel Architects aus Amsterdam.

CITY CYCLING 2025: Cycling Together – Making a Difference Together

In 2025, Climate Alliance - the largest European city network for municipal climate protection - is once again calling on citizens and municipalities to cycle as many everyday journeys as possible within three weeks. The goal is to make a strong statement in favour of mobility, healthy exercise, and active climate protection. The city of Weimar is taking part in »CITY CYCLING« from 24 May to 13 June 2025. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be participating for the fourth time with its own team.

Brain Versus Computer: Same Principles?

Renowned neuroscientist Wolf Singer will be a guest at the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar on Tuesday, 27 May 2025 at 7 pm. With his public lecture on »Oszillationen, Wellen und Interferenzen als Lingua Franca der Großhirnrinde« (oscillations, waves, and interface as the lingua franca of the cerebral cortex), he will be opening his new lecture series »Sonic Talks«, which will focus on focus on rhythm, sound and healing in the 2025 summer semester.

BEYOND NOW – PostCompost: Students Look at the Thuringian Forest Through an Artistic Research Lens

What happens when a forest changes? Students from the »PostCompost – Forest Reset« research project are examining the transformation of the Thuringian Forest with instructors Klaus Fritze-Herbst and Christian Doeller. Using artistic and scientific methods, the group is making it possible to understand how nature, landscapes, and habitats are evolving and reshaping themselves.

Produktdesign (Product Design) Students Receive Rimowa Design Prize Honourable Mention

Niels Cremer and Tom Kemter received an honourable mention at the Rimowa Design Prize ceremony on Tuesday, 13 May 2025. Their »Standalone« redesign of the traditional crutch won over the jury. The Produktdesign (Product Design) students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar received a total of 10,000 euros in prize money for their design.

Call for Participation: Search for »Spacing – Lernen zwischen Räumen.« Contributions

The Lernraum.Bauhaus Symposium and eTeach Annual Conference 2025 are focussing together on the future of teaching and learning, as well as the question of how this can be spatially shaped. The joint event, titled »Spacing – Lernen zwischen Räumen.«, will take place from 24 to 26 September 2025 at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Contributions may be submitted until 1 June.

What Programs are Offered at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, and How Do I Apply? The Open Campus Day on 24 May 2025 Provides Answers

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will open its doors on Saturday, 24 May 2025 from 9 am to 3 pm for the annual Open Campus Day. What is the right degree programme for me? How can I finance my studies? What can I expect in Weimar and on campus? These questions and others will bye answered by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Studierendenwerk Thüringen staff in the foyer of the Mensa am Park at Marienstraße 15 starting at 9 am. Guests will be provided with general and subject-specific information on studying.

Prof. Dr. Guido Morgenthal Appointed Vice President for Projects and Research at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

On Wednesday, 7 May 2025, the Senate confirmed the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s new Vice Presidents. Prof. Dr. Guido Morgenthal will hold the office of Vice President for Projects and Research for the next three years. During their session, Senate members voted strongly in favour of President Prof. Peter Benz’s proposal. Prof. Dr. Timon Rabczuk, the previous Vice President, resigned from the position due to personal reasons. During the session, the Senate bid farewell to Prof. Rabczuk and President Prof. Peter Benz thanked him for his commitment over the past two years. With the appointment of Prof. Morgenthal, the Presidential Board is again complete.
