The »Thuringian Materials Day« industry event on 11 March 2024 at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will feature keynote speeches, poster pitches and an industry exhibition. Vom 14. bis 23. März nehmen 171 Studierende der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und ihrer europäischen Partneruniversitäten an der dritten Bauhaus Spring School teil. In acht Kursen zu den Themen Architektur und Urbanistik, Kunst und Gestaltung, Medien und Kultur sowie Technik und Umwelt haben die Teilnehmenden die Möglichkeit, zum kreativen Zusammenarbeiten und interkulturellen Vernetzen. Das internationale Kurzzeitprogramm startete bereits im Januar 2024 mit Online-Kursen und wird nun mit einer neuntägigen Präsenzphase in Weimar fortgesetzt.

Due to a rise in bird collisions, the university library has installed tested bird protection markings on certain glass surfaces. The purpose of these markings is to ensure that the building continues to receive natural light while also protecting native bird species.

The Building Physics Days 2024 on 6 and 7 March in Weimar will focus on how the needs of people, buildings and the environment can be reconciled. The key topics of the conference are “energy supply”, “indoor climate” and “acoustics”.

From 21 to 24 March 2024, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be represented at the Leipzig Book Fair with a booth in the Art Colleges section. This year’s theme: »Even more reading, even more writing. Neues Schreiben – neues Lesen.« Alongside numerous interactive projects available for exploration at the booth, LUCIA Verlag will also be presenting 16 publications. The books published by the student-run publishing house reflect the diversity and interdisciplinary nature of the various university departments – from art and design to media studies and architecture.

Anlässlich des FLINTA*-Kampftags 2024 laden das Gleichstellungsbüro und der Bereich Diversität alle Universitätsmitglieder am Freitag, 8. März 2024, 20 Uhr, zu einer besonderen Filmvorführung ein: Gezeigt wird der Dokumentarfilm »Die Unbeugsamen« im Audimax.

Im Vergleich zu den stark von der Corona-Pandemie geprägten Jahren 2020 und 2021 sind die Besuchszahlen der Universitätsbibliothek im Jahr 2023 wieder deutlich gestiegen. Diese waren 2020 im Vergleich zu 2019 um mehr als 50 Prozent zurückgegangen (von 201.844 auf 92.243). Im Jahr 2021 hatte sich dieser rückläufige Trend weiter fortgesetzt. Angesichts der weitgehenden Aufhebung der Pandemiebeschränkungen im Frühjahr hatte sich die Nutzungszahl 2022 mit 112.095 wieder deutlich erhöht. 2023 ist diese Zahl auf 134.791 angestiegen – ein Plus von 20 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr.

Die Gewinner*innen des 29. Regionalwettbewerbs von »Jugend forscht« Mittelthüringen stehen fest: Am 28. Februar wurden insgesamt 17 Erstplatzierte gekürt, die sich für den Landeswettbewerb Thüringen qualifiziert haben. Die Universität und die Materialforschungs- und Prüfanstalt (MFPA) Weimar veranstalteten den Nachwuchswettbewerb zum zweiten Mal.

Das Games Studio »Stepheight« hat sich erfolgreich für Thüringer Gründungsprämie beworben. Bereits am 1. Februar 2024 startete das 12-monatige Stipendium, mit dessen Hilfe sich die drei Gründer gezielt der Weiterentwicklung ihres Startups widmen können. Die Idee für die Ausgründung entstand an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar im Rahmen der Lehrveranstaltung »Bauhaus Gamesfabrik«.

Auch wenn es erst einmal so klingt: Natürlich ist die Bauhaus Gamesfabrik an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar keine »Fabrik«. Jedenfalls keine im klassischen Sinne. Aber sie zeigt, wie in der modernen Arbeitswelt zeitgemäß zusammengearbeitet wird: im Team, interdisziplinär, projektbezogen und oft in rasantem Tempo. Gleiches gilt auch für das moderne Lehren und Lernen: Am effektivsten lernen Studierende direkt beim Tun und am Objekt. So können Studierende der Fakultäten Medien sowie Kunst und Gestaltung in der Bauhaus Gamesfabrik lernend erproben, wie sie später arbeiten werden. Ganz nebenbei entstehen dabei neue und künstlerisch anspruchsvolle Computerspiele.

Even if it sounds like it at first, the Bauhaus Gamesfabrik is of course not an actual »factory«. At least not in the traditional sense of the word. But it is showing how people work together in the modern world: in project-based, interdisciplinary teams, and often at a rapid pace. This also applies to modern teaching and learning: Students learn most effectively when they work directly and on site. The Bauhaus Gamesfabrik in the Faculties of Media and Art and Design allows students to explore how they will be working in the future. And they are designing new, artistically sophisticated computer games in the process.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has successfully made it through the first round in the federal and state »Professorinnenprogramm 2030« call for applications. This makes it one of 92 universities in Germany that impressed the jury and received an award for their gender equality policies, structures and measures. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar was one of just 22 universities who were additionally awarded the title of »Gleichstellungsstarke Hochschule« (universities with strong gender equality). This is the fourth time that the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has been successful in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research’s programme for strengthening gender equality at universities.
