Mit der Landtagswahl am 1. September endet für Thüringen das Superwahljahr 2024. Wie können Bürger*innen zum Wählen – und damit zur demokratischen Mitbestimmung – motiviert werden? Dazu haben sich in diesem Jahr Institutionen und Initiativen verstärkt Gedanken gemacht. So auch zwei Professuren des Studiengangs Visuelle Kommunikation der Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

The state election on 1 September marks the end of the 2024 super election year in Thuringia. But how can citizens be encouraged to vote – and thus to participate in democratic co-determination? A number of institutions and initiatives have given this question some more thought this year, including two professorships from the Visual Communication programme within the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

It’s that time again: From 7 to 31 August 2024, 230 students from over 50 countries will be in Weimar to take part in two- to three-and-a-half-week language and specialist courses at the Bauhaus Summer School. Guests are warmly invited to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus for the final presentation on 30 August beginning at 2 pm.

More than 5,000 visitors took the chance to get to know our university, explore the current projects, ideas and work of students and teaching staff and celebrate the end of the academic year with us. Es klopft, es sägt und hämmert: Die letzten Vorbereitungen zur summaery2024 der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar laufen auf Hochtouren. Ab Donnerstagnachmittag wird der Campus zur Ausstellungs- und Festivalfläche, zum Ort der Begegnung und des Austausches. Die Studierenden präsentieren vom 11. bis 14. Juli unter dem Motto »PLAN B« ihre Ideen für Zukünftiges, zeigen die Ergebnisse des Studienjahres und laden Besucher*innen dazu ein, diese kennenzulernen und darüber ins Gespräch zu kommen. Knocking, sawing, hammering: The final preparations for summaery2024 at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are underway. Starting on Thursday afternoon, the campus will be transformed into an exhibition and festival area where encounters and exchanges can take place. From 11 to 14 July, students will be presenting their ideas for the future, showcasing the results of the academic year and inviting visitors to explore and discuss. Starting at 5 pm on Friday, 12 July, the Faculty of Media will be presenting a wide range of projects that deal with the present and future of a diverse, digital society as part of their Open Lab Night for summaery. This year will be the last time that the Computer Science of Media and Media Studies Departments transform their rooms in the former Coca-Cola factory at Schwanseestraße 143 into an experimentation and research station. Once the lecture period ends in August, the Faculty will be moving back to Bauhausstraße 11.

What could the future of vacant spaces look like? How can regional material cycles and sustainable construction methods be used? How can the future issues of town and country be solved? These are just some of the questions that students at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism will answer in their semester projects and exhibit at the summaery in and around the main building of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

In wenigen Tagen startet die Jahresschau der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, die summaery2024. Traditionell rotiert die Federführung zwischen den vier Fakultäten. In ihrem Jubiläumsjahr ist die Fakultät Bau und Umwelt für das Motto und die Gestaltung der summaery verantwortlich. Weithin sichtbar in großen Lettern ist der PLAN B auf den Plakaten inzwischen im Stadtraum präsent. Uns interessiert, welche Gedanken hinter den fünf Buchstaben liegen. Und was Besucher*innen auf der summaery2024 ab dem 11. Juli vier Tage lang sehen und erleben können. In a few short days, summaery2024, the annual exhibition at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, will begin. Traditionally, the role of organiser rotates between the four faculties. As this year is its anniversary year, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering was responsible for the theme and design of summaery. PLAN B can now be seen in big bold letters on posters across the city centre. We are interested in the thoughts behind these five letters. And what visitors to summaery2024 can expect from the four-day event beginning on 11 July. For our BAUHAUS.INSIGHTS series, we asked Prof. Dr. Tom Lahmer, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, about just that.
