It’s a meeting that many have been working towards for a long time: Over 70 participants in the BAUHAUS4EU University Alliance project came together on Wednesday, 11 March for their first official work meeting. The principal aim is to plan and finalise eleven »Work Packages« and to continue working on them across national borders over the next four years. Some of the guests in Weimar had quite the journey – and not just because of striking airport staff: Alliance members come from a total of ten universities in nine European countries. Participants will be working together until 13 March with the goal of turning the vision of a joint European university into reality, or, perhaps more precisely, to lay the foundations for it.

Wie haben sich Kurorte im 20. Jahrhundert entwickelt? Welche architektonischen Spuren hat die Moderne hinterlassen? Und warum ist dieses Erbe heute bedroht? Diesen Fragen widmet sich der Architekturhistoriker Dr. Oliver Sukrow von der TU Darmstadt in seinem Vortrag »(Mehr als) Licht, Luft und Sonne. Der Kurort und die moderne Architektur im 20. Jahrhundert«. Die Veranstaltung findet in Kooperation mit dem Internationalen Heritage-Zentrum der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar an zwei Tagen statt: am 31. März in Bad Berka und am 1. April 2025 in Weimar, jeweils um 16 Uhr.

Wie nehmen wir Architektur wahr? Hören wir, was wir sehen? Sehen wir, was wir hören? Diese Fragen stehen im Mittelpunkt eines neuen Podcasts zur Architekturvermittlung, der von Studierenden der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar entwickelt wurde.

Wie lassen sich Architektur und Ökologie heute grundlegend neu denken? Die japanischen Architekt*innen Fuminori Nousaku und Mio Tsuneyama entwickeln ihre Vision eines ökologischen Stadtumbaus in Analogie zu biologischen Zersetzungsprozessen, die bestehende Strukturen aufweichen und auflösen – aber auch Raum für Neues schaffen. Auf ihrer Vortragsreise durch Europa machen sie Halt im ARCH+ Salon und geben Einblick in ihre Architekturpraxis.

Das Internationale Heritage-Zentrum der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und die »Weimarer Lesarten« laden zu einer gemeinsamen Veranstaltung am 26. März 2025, 19.30 Uhr, in die Universitätsbibliothek ein: Die Autorin Florentine Anders liest aus ihrem Roman »Die Allee«, in dem sie das Leben ihres Großvaters, des DDR-Stararchitekten Hermann Henselmann, nachzeichnet. Im Gespräch diskutiert sie mit Prof. Dr. Daniela Spiegel, Professur Denkmalpflege und Baugeschichte, und Dr. Bianka Trötschel-Daniels, wissenschaftliche Geschäftsführerin des Internationalen Heritage-Zentrums, über Bauhaus-Ideen, die Architektur der DDR und die Herausforderungen persönlicher Emanzipation im 20. Jahrhundert.

Kunst- und Musikhochschulen stehen in der Hochschulkommunikation besonderen Herausforderungen gegenüber. Diese resultieren aus ihrer Struktur, ihren Zielgruppen und ihrem Selbstverständnis. Sie verkörpern eine freie, kreative und nicht-kommerzielle Denkweise, müssen sich jedoch im Wettbewerb um Studierende, Fördermittel und Sichtbarkeit behaupten. Vom 12. bis 14. März 2025 treffen sich die Sprecher*innen der deutschen Kunst- und Musikhochschulen an der Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In diesem Jahr steht die Krisen- und Haltungskommunikation im Mittelpunkt des Treffens.

Die Gewinner*innen des 30. Regionalwettbewerbs Mittelthüringen »Jugend forscht« stehen fest: Am 26. Februar wurden insgesamt 15 Erstplatzierte sowie zwei Regionalsieger*innen für das beste interdisziplinäre Projekt gekürt, die sich für den Landeswettbewerb Thüringen qualifiziert haben.

Ten universities in nine European countries: The EU-funded »BAUHAUS4EU« Alliance launched at the beginning of January. The transnational cooperation, led by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, is aiming to develop innovative digital teaching formats and strengthen internationalisation. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, as project leader, has invited over 70 participants from all over Europe to a kick-off meeting in Weimar from 11 to 13 March.

From 27 February to 7 March, the Bauhaus Spring School will attract students from all over Europe for its fourth year. With 226 participants from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and its European partner universities, this year’s international short programme has a record number of enrolments. In ten interdisciplinary courses on architecture and urbanism, art and design, and media and culture, participants will have the chance to work creatively together and engage in intercultural networking. Guests are warmly invited to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus for the final presentation on 7 March beginning at 2 pm.

On 1 September 2024, Patrick Staubach was appointed University Professor of Geotechnics at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Over the course of his academic career, he has specialised in numerical methods and applications, specifically in the field of offshore wind turbines. To celebrate his appointment, Prof. Staubach is inviting all interested parties to his public inaugural lecture on 19 February, 2025 at 4:30 pm in Lecture Hall A at Marienstraße 13. The topic of the lecture is »Beiträge der Geotechnik im Hinblick auf die Herausforderungen des 21. Jahrhunderts« (contributions of geotechnics to 21st century challenges).

Sie haben erfolgreich Fördermittel für Ihr Forschungsprojekt eingeworben – doch nun stehen Sie vor der Frage, wie Sie die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit so gestalten, dass sie den Förderrichtlinien entspricht. Professur Denkmalpflege und Baugeschichte, Internationales Heritage Zentrum und Institut für Europäische Urbanistik stellen im Rahmen der Semesterausstellung »go4spring« am 13. Februar 2025 die Publikation »Zirkuläre Stadt. Zirkuläres Bauen. Denkmalpflege?« vor. Interessierte sind herzlich eingeladen.

Fritz Goro (1901–1986) studied in 1921 and 1922 at the early Bauhaus in Weimar. He later went on to become one of the most important science photographers in the USA. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is paying tribute to Goro’s extraordinary contribution to science photography in the exhibition »Fritz Goro: Fotografie zwischen Kunst und Wissenschaft«, starting on 6 March 2025 in the foyer of the University Library. The exhibition features work from across five decades and highlights the pivotal points in his career, which is characterised by his Jewish-German-American exile history.

From 13 to 16 February 2025, the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be opening its doors for their semester exhibition. Students and instructors will be presenting around 40 projects that were conceived during the semester. Many of the projects address current challenges in architecture, urban and rural planning, and socio-politics, for instance sustainable urban development, redevelopment of existing buildings, and rural transformation.

A pilot project promoting sustainable material cycles is being launched at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: »Materialverteiler«. The project hopes to provide students and instructors with a designated space for collecting recyclable materials and making the materials available for reuse free of charge. The aim is to conserve the resources being used in the Architecture and Urbanism degree programmes, reduce waste, and relieve the financial burden on students.

On Wednesday, 12 February 2025, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students will be presenting the results of their project in Suhl. The public presentation will be held at 5 pm in the Congress Centrum Suhl. Those interested are invited to attend the presentation and join in a discussion with the students afterwards.

Unter dem Motto »Macht aus Fragen Antworten« findet der 30. Regionalwettbewerb von »Jugend forscht« für Mittelthüringen am Mittwoch, 26. Februar 2025, an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar statt. Bereits zum dritten Mal veranstaltet die Universität gemeinsam mit der Materialforschungs- und Prüfanstalt (MFPA) Weimar den renommierten Nachwuchswettbewerb.

For the eighth time, students from the Faculty of Art and Design are inviting visitors to the Winterwerkschau. From 7 to 9 February, visitors will be given exclusive insights into over 50 current academic projects. The focus isn’t solely on the finished work – the creative process itself is also on display. Starting on Saturday, 8 February, from 10 am to 2 pm, prospective students can visit the exhibition and learn more about studying in the fields of art and design. Prior registration is not necessary.

Das Institut für Europäische Urbanistik lädt am 3. Februar, 18 bis 20 Uhr, zu einem Themenabend zur brasilianischen Wohnungsfrage in englischer Sprache ein.

From 4 to 11 February, Weimar's »Atrium« is attracting visitors with a special experience: students from the »Art and Social Terrain« class at the Faculty of Art and Design are designing two shops in the shopping centre. They are putting on an exhibition and offering daily »skill-share workshops« where participants can learn new things and socialise. The vernissage, a performative tour, begins on Tuesday, 4 February 2025, at 5 pm. The meeting point is the red carpet in front of the main entrance.
