Learning from the Model: From the Historical Bridge Model to the Digital Twin

On 28 and 29 April 2025, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be hosting an interdisciplinary workshop on »Messmodelle« (measurement models) in engineering. As part of the event, scientists from the fields of structural engineering history, civil engineering, design theory, heritage conservation, and restoration science will be exploring the historical context of model statics and discussing strategies for their preservation. All those interested are cordially invited to the event.

Am 10. April startet die Vortragsreihe einBlick ins Sommersemester 2025. Los geht es mit einem Gastvortrag der Deutschen Bahn zum Thema »Ingenieurbauten bei der Bahn – Bauen unter rollendem Rad«. Angesichts des hohen anstehenden Investitionsbedarfes in der schienengebundenen Infrastruktur und der zahlreichen zukünftigen Brückenprojekte gewinnt das Bauen während des laufenden Bahnbetriebs zunehmend an Bedeutung. Die Referenten Dr.-Ing. Samuel Pfenning, Taher Abdou, M.Sc. und Dipl.-Ing.Univ. Jens Röding M.Eng. geben einen fundierten Einblick in die komplexen Prozesse. Alle Interessierten sind herzlich ab 17 Uhr in den Hörsaal A, Marienstr. 13, eingeladen.

On Tuesday, 22 April 2025, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar will be honouring their student volunteers starting at 2 pm. The event will provide an opportunity to engage in conversation in a pleasant and casual atmosphere. Together, we want to celebrate both the close cooperation between the universities’ student bodies and the student commitment, something that is too often overlooked.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will begin its first annual theme series, »BEYOND NOW⸺ Environment ⸺ Technology ⸺ Human« in the 2025 summer semester. The »Beyond Now – Questions on the Future of Society« event series is an essential part of the annual programme. It is intended to highlight current social issues and combine regional, national, and international perspectives. Leading guests from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and other institutions will join students and the audience to discuss developments that are bringing about profound changes, providing mutual support, and shaping our society in the long term from an interdisciplinary perspective.

»Held*innen«: Ausstellung und Lesung mit Comic-Künstlerin Olivia Vieweg

Von Weimar aus hat Olivia Vieweg die deutsche Comic-Szene erobert: Die Alumna der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar gehört zu den wichtigsten Comic-Künstlerinnen ihrer Generation. Die Ausstellung »Held*innen« zeigt im Rahmen der »Weimarer Lesarten« ihre wichtigsten Werke – darunter preisgekrönte Graphic Novels, eindrucksvolle Originalzeichnungen und die Geschichten ihrer unverwechselbaren Held*innen. Zur Eröffnung am 8. April, 16 Uhr, im Foyer der Universitätsbibliothek sprechen Autor Werner Holzwarth, früherer Professor für Visuelle Kommunikation an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, und Bibliotheksdirektor Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz.

»La Casa de Pappe« Material Distributor Opens Its Doors at the Start of the Semester

The »Materialverteiler« is now open. On 8 April from 4 to 9 pm, those interested can have a look around and drop off or pick up materials. The pilot project, which has been collecting materials since February, offers a central point for students and instructors at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar to drop off recyclable materials like cardboard, wood, and foam that can then be passed on free of charge.

A Scenic Stage as a Trade Fair Stand

She stopped by the stand because it »really stood out from the others«, says a Leipzig Book Fair visitor of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s stand. And because she finds the hustle and bustle of the publishing stands in the exhibition halls to be too much, she particularly enjoys coming here and being able to browse through such great and unusual books. She is especially interested in typography, which drew her to a book printed in red on white and deals with signets, pictograms and lettering by a VK student.

Network Meeting and Training for Improved Road Safety in Weimar

On 31 March and 1 April, the »Forschungsgesellschaft für Straßen- und Verkehrswesen e. V. (FGSV)« and the Professorship of Transport System Planning at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar have organised the »Symposium Verkehrssicherheit von Straßen« at the Congress Centrum Weimarhalle. The 2025 topics include looking at serious cycling accidents on rural roads, improving road markings, and safe school routes. The goal is to qualify decision-makers in politics, transport planning, and research in order to identify and eliminate road traffic risks.

Hannover Messe 2025: The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Presents Building Materials of the Future

From masonry made out of »Mikrowellenstroh« (microwave straw) and snail slime, to self-healing intelligent concrete – the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be represented at this year's industrial trade fair in Hanover with four world premières from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The exhibits will be on display from 31 March to 4 April 2025 at the joint »Forschung für die Zukunft« stand, which brings together pioneering research projects from the states of Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt.

Don’t Mind the Gap: Leipzig Book Fair Stand Invites Visitors to Linger and Dream at the Imaginary Underground Station

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is continuing its long-standing tradition of participating at the Leipzig Book Fair with its own stand from 27 to 30 March 2025. This year’s concept is especially surprising: It teases visitors with a suggested entrance to an underground station. It invites visitors to take an imaginary journey from Hall 5 in Leipzig directly to Weimar.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Participates Thuringian »Mobilitätskonferenz« in Erfurt

Mobility is the driving force behind social and economic progress in Thuringia: This is the focus of the Thuringian Mobilitätskonferenz, which will take place on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 March 2025 at the COMCENTER Brühl (Erfurt). The event is jointly organised by the »Landesentwicklungsgesellschaft (LEG)« and the Thüringer Ministerium für Infrastruktur und Landwirtschaft (TMIL). The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is making a major scientific contribution with its »MOVEwell – Mobilitätsverbund werthaltige ländliche Lebensräume« project.

International Students Present Multifaceted Exhibition on the Holocaust and Second World War in the DNT's Redoute

Students from the Visuelle Kommunikation (Visual Communication) and Media Art and Design degree programmes artistically explored the individual and collective memories of the Holocaust and the Second World War. Films, video collages, set designs, and screenplay projects were created in several projects and courses. The students are presenting their work under the title »Morgen ist heute gestern« as part of the Deutsche Nationaltheater and Staatskapelle Weimar’s »Ressource Erinnerung« in the Redoute.

Die Dozentin*innen des Sommersemesters kommen von der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, der Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar sowie der Klassik Stiftung Weimar.

Am 20. März 2025 findet von 9 bis 17 Uhr im Stadthaus Hermsdorf der 23. Thüringer Werkstofftag unter dem Motto »Neue Materialien – Neue Chancen!« statt. Die Veranstaltung bietet Forschenden eine zentrale Plattform, um neueste Entwicklungen in der Material- und Werkstoffforschung zu präsentieren und zu diskutieren. Auch die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ist mit einem Vortrag und vier Posterbeiträgen präsent.
