How to sustain internationalisation when things get rough?

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers its first international staff exchange week: May 23-27, 2016.

Over the past few years internationalisation has received a lot of attention and many success stories have been told. But as each hype is followed by a decline, internationalisation is now looked at with more scrutiny: Its benefits are more critically assessed and its costs more carefully weighted. Simultaneously, evidence of its positive effects needs to be provided and internationalisation competes with other topics for strained resources. We all agree that internationalisation is important, hence the question: How to proceed and keep it healthy and alive in these times?

In keynotes, workshops and personal meetings, we will discuss the transition of internationalisation from a »topic most talked about« to a sustained comprehensive component in all processes and structures of university life.

The topics of the week will deal with:

  1. qualitative indicators of internationalisation,
  2. the internationalisation of administration, and
  3. the collaboration of experts in administrative and academic units.

All together, we will consider perspectives of the different stakeholders: students, academic, and administrative staff.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar invites you to share your experiences and to discuss good practice. It is our intention to honestly and pragmatically discuss ways how to sustain internationalisation when things get rough.
