The project is funded by the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Science and Digital Society (TMWWDG) on the basis of the guideline for the promotion of securing and recruiting highly qualified personnel for research and development and innovation - FTI-Thuringia PERSONNEL guideline - under the number 2023 FGR 0092 and co-financed by European Union funds within the framework of the European Social Fund (ESF).

Background
The research group focuses on the components of the material flows bulky waste, mixed construction waste and textiles, which are only marginally processed and recycled in the sense of the circular economy. Currently, only a small part of the potential of the waste streams is used. This can also be attributed to the use of low-threshold technologies for recovering secondary raw materials.
Objectives and approach
The aim is to mobilize waste streams through targeted collection strategies, produce high-quality secondary raw materials for use in practice and identify potential for decarbonization. The focus here is particularly on the use of innovative plant technology from research institutions. Each material flow will be examined in a work package focusing on the topics of "collection and mobilization", "processing and recycling" and "economics and law". The aim is to make these material flows part of a functioning circular economy. Within the consortium, Bauhaus University is primarily responsible for the "Textiles" component.
