New project "BUCABUMA" by the ECL-AA
The Emerging City Lab – Addis Ababa is part of the four-year EU-funded cooperation project ‘BUCUBAMA – Building Capacity in Circular Natural Materials using Frugal Digital and Traditional Engineering Innovations’
In collaboration with several universities in Africa and Europe, namely Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana), the University of Nairobi (Kenya), the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the ECL-AA, as part of the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development at Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), is conducting research into pioneering methods for working with natural and locally available building materials. With the aid of digital design and simple technical tools, traditional techniques are to be reinterpreted and new avenues for sustainable construction explored.
The project will run for four years and is funded by the European Union under the NDICI-MOBAF programme.
Further information can be found on the website of the ECL-AA and the Kwame Nkrumah University.
