As part of the Open Day at Weimar Children’s University on 24 September 2025, Larissa Daube and Katharina Elert from the Professorship of Constructive Design and Structural Design gave a lecture on the topic of ‘Building with natural materials’.

On 24 September 2025, the Weimar Children’s University held its 2025 Campus Day. In a packed Maurice Halbwachs Auditorium filled with pupils from Years 6 and 7, Dr Larissa Daube and Katharina Elert from the Professorship of Constructive Design and Structural Design gave a lecture on the topic of ‘Building with Materials from Nature’. The talk began with a general discussion of why some building materials are more harmful to the environment than others, and concluded by highlighting the advantages of clay and straw as building materials. The young audience responded with many curious and critical questions.
We hope that many of tomorrow’s young scientists were inspired to develop more environmentally friendly solutions for the future.
