New book release: "Ein Experiment in Holz und Energie – Bauhaus Energy Hub"
In the summer semester of 2025, the findings and achievements of the interdisciplinary ‘Bauhaus Energy Hub’ project run by the Professorship of Building Physics were compiled into a book, which is now available in bookshops.
The book aims to shed light on the various facets of the Bauhaus Energy Hub. It documents its development, but also seeks to draw insights from the experience gained and thereby contribute to the discourse on innovative, sustainable building solutions. What design approaches were adopted, and which concepts shape the interior? How do the participating professors and lecturers assess the project? Has it lived up to its claims of being energy self-sufficient, as well as mobile and sustainable? And to what extent can the ideas developed be applied to other scales? The book aims to provide answers – and at the same time raise new questions.
“The Bauhaus Energy Hub – a place that is more than just a space. It is a built experiment, a visible symbol of sustainable construction, a learning process on a 1:1 scale.
From the initial sketches to its realisation on the campus of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the project combines technical innovations with design excellence through interdisciplinary collaboration. Experiences from all project phases demonstrate the potential of an integrative approach and encourage us to reflect on new ways of building.
The Bauhaus Energy Hub is a building that asks questions. This book invites you to embark on a search for answers.”
