Conference Team

Hans-Rudolf Meier: born on 09.11.1956 in Zurich, Switzerland. He is the chair holder for the Preservation of Historical Monuments and Sites and the History of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, Bauhaus Universität Weimar. He graduated in history of art and medieval archaeology at the University of Basel, where he got also his PhD degree and the Venia legendi with his postdoctoral thesis (habilitation). He was assistant at the Institute of the History of Art, University Basel and at the Medieval Institute of the University of Fribourg, Research-Member of the Swiss Institute in Rome and Assistant Professor at the Institute for Preservation of Historical Monuments at the Faculty of Architecture of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zürich). 2003-2007 he was Professor for Preservation of Historical Monuments and Building Archaeology and Dean of the post-gradual Master course »Conservation and Urban Development« at the Technische Universität Dresden, bevor he changed to the Bauhaus Universität Weimar, where he was 2011/12 Vice-President. He published 12 Books and more than 80 articles in the field of history and theory of preservation, urban heritage, history of architecture and medieval art history and archaeology.

Leila Javanmardi: born on 13.09.1986 Tehran, Iran. She is a PhD student and urban researcher at Bauhaus Universität, Weimar. She holds a bachelor's degree in urban planning and a master's degree in urban and regional design and planning. Currently she is the scholarship holder of Thüringer Graduiertenförderung. Her Ph.D. is part of “The center of dictatorship and Urbanism” at Bauhaus Universität and investigates urban Planning in contemporary history of Iran (Second Pahlavi, 1941-1979).  Researching the legacy of modern urbanism in her thesis on one side and observing the effect of recent events and conflicts in Middle East and North Africa on the other, motivated her to address the problematic of modern heritage in her works. By planning this conference, she aims to highlight the fragility of undocumented modern urbanism and architecture products and to bring the unseen heritage of MENA region to attention.

Maher Deeb: born on 06.09.1984, Tartous, Syria. He graduated 2007 from Damascus University-Syria 2007 as civil engineer – structural engineering department. He participated 2009 in the “Natural Hazard and Risk in structural Engineering (NHRE)” international Master program and obtained his degree in 2011. He started 2011 his doctoral study at the research training group GRK1462 and he expects to submit his thesis at the end of 2016 and to defend September 2017. In his work he discusses the influence of engineering model quality on the reliability of the inspection method for damage detection in civil engineering structures. Health Monitoring and preservation modern heritage against natural hazards are interesting conference subtopics where his Master and PhD works can be applied in practice.

Dalia Ibrahim: born on 02.02.1984. She holds a Master of Science in Architectural Engineering from Cairo University. Currently, she is a PhD. candidate in Architecture and Urbanism Faculty at Bauhaus University, Germany. She has nine years professional experience in the field of architecture and urban planning; undertaking data collection, data analysis and reports preparation for several regional and national environmental management and urban planning projects such as Vulnerability Assessment of Freshwater Resources to Climate Change and Environment Outlook for the Arab Region. This in addition to graphic design comprising of a variety of products and activities, such as books, reports, websites, exhibitions and displays, corporate communications and corporate identity (e.g. giving organizations a visual ‹brand›). Dalia is responsible for assisting in various environmental assessment projects, architecture educational and urban design, as well as delivering practical and tutorial sessions for courses and assessing their impact, including: History and Theories of Architecture, Urban Design and Architecture and Human Studies.

Yuko Okura: born on 10.02.1992 Okayama, Japan. She studied musicology beside intercultural music and arts management at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar. She obtained her Bachelor degree in 2016 and is now a Master student of musicology, specialized in arts management. At the same time she is a manager of Collegium Musicum Weimar. During her education she interned as a production and dramaturgy assistant at “Theater Erfurt” as well as at the “Japanese Film Festival Nippon Connection Frankfurt am Main” as a guest coordinator. Furthermore, she worked as assistance at many cultural events in Thuringia. At the YBRC she is responsible for general organisational tasks and is our contact person for all questions on travel and accomodation in Weimar.

Sha Liu:born on 25.11.1984 Dalian, China. She is a graphic designer and member of chinese painting society in Dalian. She lives and works in Weimar, Berlin and Beijing. She holds a bachelor's degree in communication design and a master's degree in visual communication and visual culture. Since 2015 she started her PhD study Art and Design at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, and founded her brand “Ru Shi“ for cultural products and apparel. Her Ph.D research is about the immaterial of  traditional clothes and investigates individual and collective identity with regard to clothing of Tibet in present. Through the design experiments she aims to visualize the culture and to find new ways to express the ignored tradition. She designed a brand identity of the traditional clothing for the new lifestyle.
