Funding for publications

The Bauhaus Research School funds the (international) visibility of the research achievements of our young researchs, artists and designers. To this end, we award grants for publication-related material costs to doctoral candidates of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Applications can be submitted at any time. Funding decisions are made retrospectively on the following deadlines: 31.05.2025; 15.08.25 and 15.11.25.

This call for proposals is subject to the availability of funds.

Who can be funded?

  1. The grant is aimed at doctoral candidates who have been accepted for a doctorate by a graduation committee of a faculty of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
  2. This grant is only awarded to doctoral candidates who are employed part-time (up to 50%) or have no regular employment at the time the publication costs are incurred.
  3. Funding is possible until the date of publication of the dissertation.

What can be funded?

Funding is provided in two different categories:

  1. Other publications: Funding is provided for publication-related material costs such as translation services, editing, graphic work up to 300 euros. The publications must be transparently relevant to the doctorate. Publications in connection with third-party commissions (with remuneration) are not eligible for funding.
  2. Dissertation: Publication-related material costs such as printing costs, editing, graphic work are funded up to 400 euros.

The grant can be combined with other publication grants, provided that the costs are of different types (e.g. grant A for graphics work, grant B for printing costs) and the total costs of the publication project are not exceeded.

How can I apply?

Applications can be submitted (in German or English) at any time via the online form with file upload. The following must be attached:

  1. Original documentation: invoice, receipt
  2. Proof of payment (e.g. bank statement)
  3. Proof of further funding from third parties, if applicable
  4. If applicable, acceptance of the contribution to the publication (e.g. by publisher, journal, etc.)

Please note:

  • The publication-related material costs must have been incurred in the 6 months prior to the date of application.
  • The receipts must clearly state the name of the doctoral candidate in the invoice address as well as exact details of the publication, its title and type. In the case of printing costs, the number of printing and binding jobs should be included. Example: 8 copies of the dissertation "TITEL XYZ" (250 pages each, b/w), printing & binding.

How will the funding be awarded?

The Bauhaus Research School will decide on the applications received to date by the 3 deadlines. In the event of urgent financial need, an application can also be considered outside the deadlines. Support is granted according to the availability of annual funds. The budgetary principles of efficiency and economy apply.

The following aspects are taken into account when awarding grants:

  1. Relevance of the publication for the doctorate
  2. Necessity or requirement for financial support
  3. Availability of budget funds
  4. Funding is awarded according to the principle of diversity (funding for different doctoral candidates instead of repeated funding for individuals)

Applicants will be informed of the decision by e-mail.

Fill in the application from
