»LERNEN VOM BESTAND«: Ausstellung studentischer Projekte aus Weimar und Erfurt

Im Oktober 2024 stellen die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und die Fachhochschule Erfurt in einem gemeinsamen Hochschulmonat studentische Projekte aus, die sich Fragen des (Um)Bauens im Bestand widmen. Die Arbeiten werden im Rahmen der Ausstellung »Sorge um den Bestand« gezeigt, die der Bund Deutscher Architekten (BDA) seit August im Bahnhallenquartier Erfurt präsentiert.

»LERNEN VOM BESTAND«: Student Project Exhibition from Weimar and Erfurt

In October 2024, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Fachhochschule Erfurt University of Applied Sciences will be showcasing student projects dedicated to questions of (re)building existing structures during a joint »Hochschulmonat« (university month). The projects are part of the »Sorge um den Bestand« exhibit, which the »Bund Deutscher Architektinnen und Architekten« (Association of German Architects) has been running in Erfurt’s »Bahnhallenquartiers« since August.

The Annual Meeting of the Chancellors of German Universities in Pictures

From 19 to 21 September 2024, the annual conference of the chancellors of German universities took place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Around 100 participants from all over Germany came together to discuss the renovation backlog, processes and strategies in university construction, pioneering construction projects and the »campus of the future«.

Vom Michigansee an die Ilm | 1993 gehörte Liz Bachhuber zu den erstberufenen Professorinnen an der neugegründeten Fakultät Gestaltung der damaligen Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen (HAB). Über 25 Jahre – bis zu ihrer Emeritierung im Jahr 2018 – hat sie die Geschicke der Fakultät und der Universität entscheidend mitgeprägt. Im Gespräch mit dem Direktor der Universitätsbibliothek, Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz, gibt sie Auskunft über ihren künstlerischen Werdegang und ihre Erfahrungen an der späteren Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Deputy Prof. Sandra Huning bids farewell to Weimar

From October 2022 until September 2024, PD Dr Sandra Huning served as Deputy Professor of Urban Planning at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In October 2024, she will return to the Technical University of Dortmund to resume her position at the Faculty of Spatial Planning within the Department of Urban and Regional Sociology. Stärkung des Bauforschungsstandortes Weimar: Das IAB wird neues An-Institut der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und das Institut für Angewandte Bauforschung Weimar haben am Mittwoch, 18. September 2024, einen Kooperationsvertrag unterzeichnet, mit dem das IAB zum neuen An-Institut der Universität wird. Die Vereinbarung unterstreicht die intensive Zusammenarbeit beider Institutionen und wird die Forschung, Lehre und den Wissenstransfer im Bereich Bau- und Umweltingenieurwesen und damit den Wirtschafts- und Wissenschaftsstandort Weimar weiter stärken.

Enhancing Weimar’s role as a hub for construction research: The IAB is now an affiliated institute of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

On Wednesday, 18 September 2024, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Institute for Applied Building Research Weimar (Institut für Angewandte Bauforschung Weimar, IAB) signed a cooperation agreement that establishes the IAB as a new affiliated institute of the university. The agreement highlights the intensive collaboration between the two institutions, with the aim of strengthening research, education and knowledge transfer in civil and environmental engineering, thereby reinforcing Weimar’s standing as a hub for business and science.

BAUHAUS.INSIGHTS: What is on the minds of German university chancellors in 2024?

The annual »Jahrestagung der Kanzlerinnen und Kanzler der deutschen Universitäten« is scheduled to take place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar from 19 to 21 September 2024 under the title »Hochschulbau trotz/t Krisen«. After nearly 20 years, this important event for professional dialogue on current challenges faced by university management is returning to the university in Weimar. In this BAUHAUS.INSIGHTS interview, the host, University Chancellor Dr. Horst Henrici, spoke to us on the importance of this conference for university chancellors. Key topics at the conference include building management, sustainability, and upcoming challenges and opportunities for universities.

Annual Conference of the Chancellors of German Universities at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Once a year, the chancellors of Germany’s universities convene for their annual conference in order to address current professional challenges within their areas of responsibility. This year’s conference is scheduled for 19 to 21 September at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and is dedicated to the keynote topic of »University Construction Despite/in Defiance of Crises«. Some 100 participants from across Germany are expected to attend the conference, which will focus on pioneering university construction initiatives and the concept of the »campus of the future«.

Bauhaus Summer School 2024: Erfolgreicher Ingenieurkurs

Im Rahmen der Bauhaus Summer School 2024 fand erstmalig der Ingenieurkurs »NextGen Engineers – Advanced Training Courses for a Sustainable Tomorrow« vom 17. bis 31. August 2024 statt. Unter den 28 Teilnehmer*innen befanden sich Studierende aus unterschiedlichen Ländern, darunter Brasilien, Portugal, das Vereinigte Königreich, Bulgarien, Kroatien, die Tschechische Republik, Ägypten, Ghana, Irak, Pakistan und Türkei. In gemeinsamer Projektarbeit erarbeitenden sie Lösungen für komplexe Ingenieurprobleme unter Berücksichtigung der Nachhaltigkeitsziele (SDGs). Die Projektergebnisse wurden am 30. August bei den »Open Ateliers« präsentiert.

BAUHAUS.INSIGHTS: €14.4 Million in Funding for the Future – the Vision Behind BAUHAUS4EU

The slogan of the BAUHAUS4EU project is »An Alliance for a Better Future« – and this already makes the alliance’s goal clear. Namely to facilitate close, long-term collaboration on future topics, shape the future of teaching, learning and research together, and strengthen the European idea. At the end of June 2024, the European Commission confirmed that it would fund the alliance with €14.4 million over the coming four years as part of its »Erasmus+ European Universities« initiative.

Thuringian Test Field: Demand-Based Mobility Concepts for Rural Areas

The joint BMBF-funded MOVEwell project is scheduled to begin in September 2024 under the leadership of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The goal of the project is to make rural areas more accessible, thus increasing the attractiveness of the regions as business locations – in particular for skilled workers. Using three model regions in Thuringia as examples, innovative and sustainable public transport concepts will be developed, tested and integrated with workplace mobility management concepts. Nearly 4.6 million euros are being provided by the federal government for this project over the next five years.
