Die Universitätsbibliothek der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar zieht Bilanz für das Jahr 2024: Durch die Umstellung des wissenschaftlichen Publikationswesens auf Open Access, also den freien Zugang zu wissenschaftlichen Werken, hat es im vergangenen Jahr große Veränderungen im Erwerbungsetat der Weimarer Universitätsbibliothek gegeben. Die Bibliothek hat in der Vergangenheit vor allem zwischen Ausgaben für gedruckte und elektronische Medien unterschieden, 2024 sind die Publikationskosten als größerer eigenständiger Bereich hinzugekommen. Diese Verschiebung macht deutlich, dass die Bibliothek zunehmend zu einer Serviceeinrichtung für wissenschaftliches Publizieren wird.

Im Rahmen eines Studienprojektes untersuchten Studierende der Urbanistik der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, wie die Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Städten Suhl und Zella-Mehlis wahrgenommen wird und welche Potenziale in der interkommunalen Kooperation liegen. Zum Ende des Wintersemesters 2024/25 haben sie nun die Ergebnisse des Studienprojektes »Transformation durch Kooperation? Suhl und Zella-Mehlis im neuen Oberzentrum Südthüringen« vorgestellt.

As part of a semester project, Urbanistik students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar examined how cooperation between the towns of Suhl and Zella-Mehlis is perceived and the potential for inter-municipal cooperation. At the end of the 2024/2025 winter semester, the students presented the results of their project »Transformation durch Kooperation? Suhl und Zella-Mehlis im neuen Oberzentrum Südthüringen«.

Vom 27. Februar bis 7. März bringt die Bauhaus Spring School zum vierten Mal Studierende aus ganz Europa zusammen: Mit 226 Teilnehmenden der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und ihrer europäischen Partneruniversitäten verzeichnet das internationale Kurzzeitprogramm in diesem Jahr so viele Anmeldungen wie noch nie. In zehn interdisziplinären Kursen aus den Bereichen Architektur und Urbanistik, Kunst und Gestaltung sowie Medien und Kultur haben die Studierenden die Möglichkeit, kreativ zusammenzuarbeiten und sich interkulturell zu vernetzen. Zur Abschlusspräsentation am 7. März, ab 14 Uhr, sind Besucher*innen herzlich auf den Campus der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar eingeladen.

From 27 February to 7 March, the Bauhaus Spring School will attract students from all over Europe for its fourth year. With 226 participants from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and its European partner universities, this year’s international short programme has a record number of enrolments. In ten interdisciplinary courses on architecture and urbanism, art and design, and media and culture, participants will have the chance to work creatively together and engage in intercultural networking. Guests are warmly invited to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus for the final presentation on 7 March beginning at 2 pm.

Medienvertreter*innen sind zum 30. Regionalwettbewerb von »Jugend forscht« Mittelthüringen am Mittwoch, 26. Februar 2025, von 14 bis 15.45 Uhr, herzlich in das Universitätshauptgebäude eingeladen. Die anschließende öffentliche Preisverleihung findet 16 Uhr im Maurice-Halbwachs-Auditorium statt.

Wie Menschen wohnen, ist von enormer Bedeutung – nicht nur für ihr eigenes Leben, sondern auch für die Gesellschaft. Unsere gebaute Wohnumwelt prägt gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen, während umgekehrt auch unsere sozialen Praktiken unsere Wohnsituation verändern – aber wie genau? Wo liegen die Konflikte, die Herausforderungen, und wie kann Forschung dabei helfen, die großen Wohnungsfragen unserer Zeit zu lösen?

Am 1. September 2024 wurde Patrick Staubach zum Universitätsprofessor für Geotechnik an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ernannt. Im Laufe seiner akademischen Karriere spezialisierte er sich auf numerische Methoden und Anwendungen, insbesondere im Bereich Offshore-Windenergieanlagen. Anlässlich seiner Berufung lädt Prof. Staubach alle Interessierten zur öffentlichen Antrittsvorlesung am 19. Februar 2025 um 16.30 Uhr in den Hörsaal A in der Marienstraße 13 ein. Thematisiert werden »Beiträge der Geotechnik im Hinblick auf die Herausforderungen des 21. Jahrhunderts«.

On 1 September 2024, Patrick Staubach was appointed University Professor of Geotechnics at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Over the course of his academic career, he has specialised in numerical methods and applications, specifically in the field of offshore wind turbines. To celebrate his appointment, Prof. Staubach is inviting all interested parties to his public inaugural lecture on 19 February, 2025 at 4:30 pm in Lecture Hall A at Marienstraße 13. The topic of the lecture is »Beiträge der Geotechnik im Hinblick auf die Herausforderungen des 21. Jahrhunderts« (contributions of geotechnics to 21st century challenges).

Professur Denkmalpflege und Baugeschichte, Internationales Heritage Zentrum und Institut für Europäische Urbanistik stellen im Rahmen der Semesterausstellung »go4spring« am 13. Fritz Goro (1901–1986) studied in 1921 and 1922 at the early Bauhaus in Weimar. He later went on to become one of the most important science photographers in the USA. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is paying tribute to Goro’s extraordinary contribution to science photography in the exhibition »Fritz Goro: Fotografie zwischen Kunst und Wissenschaft«, starting on 6 March 2025 in the foyer of the University Library. The exhibition features work from across five decades and highlights the pivotal points in his career, which is characterised by his Jewish-German-American exile history.

From 13 to 16 February 2025, the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be opening its doors for their semester exhibition. Students and instructors will be presenting around 40 projects that were conceived during the semester. Many of the projects address current challenges in architecture, urban and rural planning, and socio-politics, for instance sustainable urban development, redevelopment of existing buildings, and rural transformation.

A pilot project promoting sustainable material cycles is being launched at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: »Materialverteiler«. The project hopes to provide students and instructors with a designated space for collecting recyclable materials and making the materials available for reuse free of charge. The aim is to conserve the resources being used in the Architecture and Urbanism degree programmes, reduce waste, and relieve the financial burden on students.

On Wednesday, 12 February 2025, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students will be presenting the results of their project in Suhl. The public presentation will be held at 5 pm in the Congress Centrum Suhl. Those interested are invited to attend the presentation and join in a discussion with the students afterwards.

For the third time in a row, an alumna of the binational Europäische Medienkultur (EMK) degree programme at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has received the Franco-German University (DFH) Excellence Award: Emilia Terodde was recognised this year for her Bachelor's thesis, »Hörbare Abwesenheit. Der Sound als Träger der Erinnerung in ›The Zone of Interest‹«. The award ceremony was held on 30 January 2025 at the French Embassy in Berlin.

This includes two new funding initiatives: the BEYOND NOW Fund and the continuation of the »Demokratie stärken« (strengthening democracy) Fund.
