The »Thüringer Innovationszentrum für die Zukunft des Bauens« (ThIZ-BAU) intends to develop resource-friendly, sustainable building materials and processes and to transfer new products and technologies into industrial application. Today, as a first step, Thuringia’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Colette Boos-John, presented approval for three forms of funding totalling just under 5.5 million euros (EFRE and state funds) to the participating research institutions in Weimar: the Finger-Institute for Building Material Engineering at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (0.9 million euros), the Institut für Angewandte Bauforschung Weimar GmbH (IAB) (2.5 million euros), and the Materials Research and Testing Laboratory (MFPA) (2.1 million euros). The funding will be used primarily to purchase research equipment. All three institutes will be sponsoring the new »Innovationszentrum« together.

On 5 and 6 March 2026, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be hosting the Bauhaus Colloquium for Emerging Researchers. The event, titled »Methods + Interdisciplinary Research Work«, is dedicated to joint reflection on research practice across disciplinary boundaries and establishing an open space for exchanges on methodological approaches, interdisciplinary perspectives, and current research processes.

From 12 to 15 February 2026, the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be opening its doors for their »go4spring« semester exhibition. Students will share insights into their work from the 2025/26 winter semester.

Major success for the Faculty of Media and the European Medienkultur (EMK) degree programme: On Thursday, 29 January 2026, Maya Kurth was the fourth EMK graduate in a row to receive the Excellence Award for the top graduates of the Deutsch-Französischen Hochschule (DFH) at the German Embassy in Paris. The prize, funded by the German-French television broadcaster ARTE, is endowed with 1,500 euros.

Vom 12. bis 15. Februar 2026 öffnet die Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ihre Türen zur Wintersemesterschau »go4spring«. Studierende ermöglichen Einblicke in aktuelle Arbeiten aus dem Wintersemester 2025/26.

At the end of last year, we called upon the University community for the first time to submit their questions for the University President. He will now be answering your questions once a month. The original idea was to select five questions each month, but it turns out, we didn't need to do the selecting: Exactly five questions were submitted.

Guido Wolter, visual effects supervisor, has been nominated for an Oscar for his work on the Hollywood film »Sinners«. Wolter studied Media Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar from 2000 to 2006. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, 15 March 2026, in Los Angeles. We're keeping our fingers crossed!

Am Dienstag, 3. Februar 2026, übergibt die Thüringer Wirtschaftsministerin Colette Boos-John die Zuwendungsbescheide für das Thüringer Innovationszentrum für die Zukunft des Bauens.

Einmal jährlich lädt der Fachschaftsrat der Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung alle Studierenden ein, ihre aktuellen Arbeiten in einer Werkschau zu präsentieren. Über 50 Projekte und Kurse haben sich angemeldet und können von Freitag, 6. Februar, bis Sonntag, 8. Februar 2026, besucht und erkundet werden.
