Four Days of Art, Concerts, and AI: The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Celebrates the End of the Semester
The »summaery2026« annual exhibition is a highlight of the Weimar summer every year. From 9 to 12 July, visitors are invited to explore the University campus. In a relaxed atmosphere, students and instructors will be presenting projects and research findings from the fields of architecture, civil engineering, art, design, and media.
The over 150 projects show the many ways in which this year’s theme, »Prompt‽«, can be interpreted. The Faculty of Media will open its research labs for OPEN LAB NIGHT on Friday, 10 July 2026, from 5 to 10 pm. Visitors are invited to test out interactive technologies, virtual worlds, and intelligent systems for themselves. The Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism is focussing on the future of existing places and presenting designs that open up new perspectives for cities, rural areas, and the built environment. The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering is showcasing innovative research approaches to the challenges posed by the future of construction. For the Faculty of Art and Design, the »Prompt« theme expresses itself in a dialogue between people, materials, and digital space – for example how porcelain »responds« to design decisions on how interactive installations react to visitors’ hand and body movements.
A Peek Behind the Scenes
One of the special features of summaery2026 is the opportunity to experience the campus from new perspectives. Visitors will have access to temporary exhibitions in ateliers, workshops, and historic University buildings that are otherwise only partially accessible, or not open to the public at all, outside the annual exhibition. Along with the UNESCO World Heritage Site buildings, the lesser-known exhibition venues are especially charming: At Bauhausstraße 15, visitors can discover animations and short films created by Media Art and Design students. The studios and workspaces at Marienstraße 1 to 14 will be offering a wide range of insights into art and design, while the outdoor spaces across campus will become stages for performances, parties, and pop-up exhibitions.
The students will also be extending the exhibition off campus and into the city: In addition to larger exhibition venues such as the Sendehalle at Humboldtstraße 36 and the former post office at Goetheplatz, the smaller galleries like the one at Trierer Straße 12 where prints will be on display, are also worth a visit. In short: summaery2026 invites you to discover research, art, and teaching projects right at the source. These behind-the-scenes insights are what gives the annual exhibition its unique character, continually offering new ways for Weimar residents to engage with the University.
Special Programme Live from Campus
Even before the official opening, the University radio station »bauhaus.fm« will be sparking discussion with its special programme »Der FLURFUNK«. From 6 to 11 July, the radio studio will be broadcasting live from campus, bringing together voices from the University and the community. The project explores politics »in the hallways« while investigating radio as a medium of resistance and connection. The programme includes DJ sets, themed broadcasts, discussions with guests, and performative interventions. »Der FLURFUNK« can be heard on bauhaus.fm at 106.6 Mhz and on the radios installed in the University buildings.
