IV-1: Combination of dimensionally reduced and volume oriented calculation models in an entire model for the load-bearing structural calculation

Complex load-bearing structures are traditionally calculated using an abstraction of the overall structure in several independent partial models. These are simply linked over input and output data, which leads to slack coupling of the partial models. The partial models are generally composed of dimensionally reduced abstraction of the overall model’s load-bearing behaviour in, for example, joists, slab, disk, shell.

Within the scope of this dissertation, it should be researched, how far a utilisation of finite volume models might support the engineer in this entire process to improve the perception of his tasks. Using this approach, the distribution of the overall model in dimensionally reduced partial models, which as input parameters define a further calculation, would not be positioned at the beginning of the analysis of the load-bearing structure. Moreover, a completely volume oriented analysis of the load-bearing structure, principally by the load-bearing behaviour of the overall system, i.e. the question regarding the possible choice of dimensionally reduced analysis models of partial systems, would be a result of the analysis.

The pursued objective of this goal is to support the engineer to find a suitable overall model and to be able to assess a possible alternative load-bearing behaviour to attain a result of the planning of the load-bearing structure, however not automatically on the basis of a digital overall model.
