Participation in the Resource Forum Nordhausen 2025

The Resource Forum Nordhausen 2025 took place from September 25–26, 2025, in Nordhausen. The conference focused on Recycling, Waste Treatment, and Sustainable Resource Management, bringing together experts from academia, industry, business, and local authorities to discuss current developments in these fields.

The professorship was also represented: Melanie Börmel and Gregor Biastoch presented research findings from the groups seRo.inTech (post-consumer textile recycling) and GrayToGreen (microplastic analytics), both funded by the Thüringer Aufbaubank (TAB) under the FTI-PERSONEN program.

The presentation on post-consumer textiles emphasized the political and regulatory framework, particularly the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles and the Ecodesign Regulation. Special attention was given to synthetic fibers such as polyester, polyamide, polyacrylic, and elastane. Analyses conducted within the project revealed that polyester and polyester–elastane blends account for nearly 40% of the total textile waste stream. This highlights a significant potential for the development of advanced recovery and recycling technologies. Building upon these findings, the presentation provided an outlook on current and emerging actors and technological approaches in the field of chemical recycling.
