Master's thesis on digitalisation in construction logistics receives award
Claudia Föllmer received the award from the Association of the Association of the Construction Industry, Environment and Mechanical Engineering (VDBUM) in Willingen on 11 February 2026 for her master's thesis on: ‘Analysis and concept development for the digitisation of approval processes for large-scale and heavy transport in the construction industry’.
The permitting procedures for large-scale and heavy transport (GST) in the construction industry are complex and time-consuming. In her master's thesis, Claudia Fölmmer developed a practical digitisation strategy with the aim of accelerating the entire process chain.
To better understand the existing processes, Föllmer first conducted guided interviews with experts from administration, logistics and the field of expert assessment. This revealed that many steps are still carried out analogously, responsibilities are distributed across different levels and processes are insufficiently coordinated. In addition, there are different data formats, which make communication between applicants, authorities and other parties involved difficult. This often leads to long processing times, little transparency and a high coordination effort. In order to optimise existing processes, Claudia Föllmer developed a concept for a fully digital approval procedure. Among other things, structured data management and better communication between all parties involved are planned.
Claudia Föllmer is currently abroad, so her mentor, Prof. Jürgen Melzner, accepted the award on her behalf. The work was supervised by Markus Boden at the professorship.
