The MediaArchitecture study programme offers in the first instance a well-grounded further education qualification for contemporary media- and architecture-related vocations. At the same time it provides a place of experimentation, a kind of laboratory or meeting place for areas of joint research and new fields of work whose forms of expression transcend disciplinary boundaries. The core element of the study programme is the project module which, through intensive ongoing supervision and experimental exploration, provides an opportunity to develop exemplary responses to issues that are currently unresolved. As the student, you can determine the relative degree of theoretical or practical work in your project work according to your individual requirements. Coursework is conducted jointly in interdisciplinary project groups, giving you the chance to learn outside of disciplinary boundaries and to train your ability to work in an interdisciplinary team. The study course is open to new professions arising in the broad spectrum between architecture and new media.
The main subject areas of the MediaArchitecture master’s study course include the following:
_ Digital planning, presentation techniques, computer graphics and
_ Architecture and media
_ Architecture and image theory
_ Cultural techniques in architecture
_ Computer-aided interdisciplinary work
_ Interface design
The integrated double degree master IMAMS programme was established in the fall of 2012/13 in cooperation with the State University of New York at Buffalo and offers a unique, international approach towards studies in the field of MediaArchitecture. Throughout the course of studies, held jointly in Weimar and Buffalo, students are engaged in an interfaculty, research- and/or design-based learning experience
Fall 2014/15 the integrated double degree IDE master programme started as a cooperation between the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Tongji Universität, Shanghai (College of Design and Innovation). Focusing on new approaches within the framework of digital environments, the programme of study deals with contemporary ideas and challenges with interaction and interface design in environments. We would like to inform that according to present knowledge the study program IDE will probably not be offered due to organizational reasons in the winter semester of 2018/19.
