A new publication from the student-organised »LUCIA Verlag« showcases typefaces and typographic designs created by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students under the direction of Stefanie Schwarz in her »Typography and Typeface Design«. The book is supplemented by texts by over 20 designers on »New Typography«, including personal perspectives and approaches in the field of typography and typeface design.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Matriculation Ceremony welcomes new students in the upcoming 2024/2025 winter semester. The start of the new semester marks not only the return of already-enrolled students back to campus, but also the beginning of an exciting new phase for many first-year students.

Professor Jan Willmann and Junior Professor Lars Abrahamczyk have successfully applied for one of nine fellowships from the Stifterverband and the Thuringian Ministry of Economics with their project »Robotic Tectonics – Robot-based teaching and learning environment for automated construction processes« (RoboTec). Around 50,000 euros are now available for an interdisciplinary teaching format designed to teach students how to use robotic arms in practice. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has already benefited several times from the funding for innovations in digital university teaching in Thuringia in order to develop new teaching projects.

Im Sommersemester 2024 hat die Professur »Fotografie« ein besonderes Projekt angeboten: Unter dem Titel »MULTIPERSPEKTIVITÄT« haben Studierende der Visuellen Kommunikation mit Kindern und Jugendlichen aus Weimar-West zusammengearbeitet. In zahlreichen Workshops und bei verschiedenen Veranstaltungen sind Fotografien entstanden, die nun bis Ende September im Stadtraum von Weimar-West ausgestellt sind.

The state election on 1 September marks the end of the 2024 super election year in Thuringia. But how can citizens be encouraged to vote – and thus to participate in democratic co-determination? A number of institutions and initiatives have given this question some more thought this year, including two professorships from the Visual Communication programme within the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

It’s that time again: From 7 to 31 August 2024, 230 students from over 50 countries will be in Weimar to take part in two- to three-and-a-half-week language and specialist courses at the Bauhaus Summer School. Guests are warmly invited to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus for the final presentation on 30 August beginning at 2 pm.

Knocking, sawing, hammering: The final preparations for summaery2024 at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are underway. Starting on Thursday afternoon, the campus will be transformed into an exhibition and festival area where encounters and exchanges can take place. From 11 to 14 July, students will be presenting their ideas for the future, showcasing the results of the academic year and inviting visitors to explore and discuss. Which highlights are happening and when – here’s a peek at what you simply cannot miss.

The online gallery »Traces of REcreation« shows 16 bachelor's and master's theses from the product design programme that were created in the winter semester 2023/24 and summer semester 2024. The graduates have worked individually or in teams on current and relevant topics such as mobility, material design, industrial design and social and critical design. The works can also be visited on site in Weimar from 11 to 14 July 2024 for summaery2024, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar's annual exhibition.

Starting at 5 pm on Friday, 12 July, the Faculty of Media will be presenting a wide range of projects that deal with the present and future of a diverse, digital society as part of their Open Lab Night for summaery. This year will be the last time that the Computer Science of Media and Media Studies Departments transform their rooms in the former Coca-Cola factory at Schwanseestraße 143 into an experimentation and research station. Once the lecture period ends in August, the Faculty will be moving back to Bauhausstraße 11.

What could the future of vacant spaces look like? How can regional material cycles and sustainable construction methods be used? How can the future issues of town and country be solved? These are just some of the questions that students at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism will answer in their semester projects and exhibit at the summaery in and around the main building of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

For this year's annual exhibition, students at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar often present their projects in unusual locations away from the campus. In addition to the art and design exhibition spaces in the historic Van de Velde ensemble and Marienstraße, summaery2024 will also feature completely new venues. This year, for example, passers-by can experience textile art at the train station in Apolda or immerse themselves in democracy campaigns in the Weimar shopping mall »Atrium«.

In a few short days, summaery2024, the annual exhibition at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, will begin. Traditionally, the role of organiser rotates between the four faculties. As this year is its anniversary year, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering was responsible for the theme and design of summaery. PLAN B can now be seen in big bold letters on posters across the city centre. We are interested in the thoughts behind these five letters. And what visitors to summaery2024 can expect from the four-day event beginning on 11 July. For our BAUHAUS.INSIGHTS series, we asked Prof. Dr. Tom Lahmer, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, about just that.

Whether in Instagram or by e-mail – from June to October, students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculties of Media and Civil and Environment Engineering will be offering digital consultations for prospective students. What makes this unique? Any questions related to studying and applying to study will be answered by six Bachelor’s students. This offer is free of charge and aims to make starting a degree programme easier.

A familiar space reimagined: Since mid-June, students have been able to come together in the foyer of the University Library in the new co-working space. The space, which opened on 13 June 2024 as part of the »Night of Writing«, is still somewhat of an insider secret, but is becoming more popular.

On 14 and 15 June the 19th Concrete Canoe Regatta took place in Brandenburg on the Havel. Over 1,000 students from six countries competed to prove that concrete can float. Never before have so many teams been registered. Participants included: 32 Students from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Whether competition, construction or design - Weimar impressed across the board with wins in almost all categories.

Am Mittwoch, 5. Juni, wurden die Weimarer Betonkanus im Schwanseebad öffentlich getauft und erstmals zu Wasser gelassen. Nach erfolgreicher Testfahrt bereiten sich die studentischen Teams nun auf die Betonkanuregatta am 14. und 15. Juni in Brandenburg an der Havel vor. Unter dem Motto »KANUSAURUS – Aufbruch in ein neues Betonzeitalter« wollen Sie die Jury nicht nur im sportlichen Wettkampf, sondern auch mit Kreativität und Konstruktionstalent überzeugen.
