Antonia Herten was appointed junior professor with tenure track for Project Development and Construction Economics on 1 October 2025. The Professorship is supported by the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

New Deans have been elected in all four faculties at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The Deans were appointed by University President Prof. Peter Benz and will serve a three-year term until the beginning of the 2028 winter semester.

During the session in late June 2025, the Studierendenwerk Thüringen Board of Directors elected Prof. Peter Benz, President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, as their new Chair for a term of two years.

Dr. Ulrike Kuch, Vice President for Social Transformation at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has been appointed to a position in Vienna. On Thursday, 24 July, the University of Applied Arts Vienna committees confirmed Ulrike Kuch’s election to the position of Rector at the renowned Viennese art academy. She is set to take office in fall of 2025.

Since 1 March 2025, Prof. Schmutz has been Professor of Building Morphology at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Am Mittwoch, den 14. On Wednesday, 7 May 2025, the Senate confirmed the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s new Vice Presidents. Prof. Dr. Guido Morgenthal will hold the office of Vice President for Projects and Research for the next three years. During their session, Senate members voted strongly in favour of President Prof. Peter Benz’s proposal. Prof. Dr. Timon Rabczuk, the previous Vice President, resigned from the position due to personal reasons. During the session, the Senate bid farewell to Prof. Rabczuk and President Prof. Peter Benz thanked him for his commitment over the past two years. With the appointment of Prof. Morgenthal, the Presidential Board is again complete.

The Spanish architect duo Pablo Garrido Arnaiz and Carla Ferrando Costansa, founders of PARABASE, will be leading the Professorship of Architectural Space and Design in the 2025 summer semester at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Their approach combines analytical research with a strong spatial and material sensibility. What brought you to Weimar? What ideas do you hope to pass on to the students?

1999 wurde der Verein der Freunde des Bauingenieur- und Baustoffingenieurwesens (vfbb) an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar gegründet. Im Zuge des Fachkräftemangels möchten die neu gewählten Vorstandsmitglieder Senior-Professor Hans-Joachim Bargstädt und Jun.-Prof. Nikolaus Seitz gezielt junge Nachwuchstalente fördern und den Austausch zwischen Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft verstärken. On 1 September 2024, Patrick Staubach was appointed University Professor of Geotechnics at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Over the course of his academic career, he has specialised in numerical methods and applications, specifically in the field of offshore wind turbines. To celebrate his appointment, Prof. Staubach is inviting all interested parties to his public inaugural lecture on 19 February, 2025 at 4:30 pm in Lecture Hall A at Marienstraße 13. The topic of the lecture is »Beiträge der Geotechnik im Hinblick auf die Herausforderungen des 21. Jahrhunderts« (contributions of geotechnics to 21st century challenges).

Natural hazards and severe weather events put buildings under great stress. Junior Professor Anastasia Athanasiou is investigating how to plan and build tall, slender structures safely and in a resource-efficient manner. Since July 2023, she has held the newly established chair of Natural Hazards and Structural Resilience at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. A native of Greece, she previously worked at the University of Catania (Italy) and Concordia University in Montreal (Canada). In her inaugural lecture, she will report on the challenges of the past year and provide an insight into current research achievements.

Was konnten Künstler*innen mit gebrochenem Deutsch in den 1920er und frühen 1930er Jahren in Berlin oder am Bauhaus erreichen? Hanna Maria Schlösser und Lorenz Kirchner leiten im Wintersemester 2024/25 die Wüstenrot Gastprofessur zum Umgang mit dem baulichen Bestand am Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT).

From October 2022 until September 2024, PD Dr Sandra Huning served as Deputy Professor of Urban Planning at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In October 2024, she will return to the Technical University of Dortmund to resume her position at the Faculty of Spatial Planning within the Department of Urban and Regional Sociology. Die Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik und das Archiv der Moderne/Universitätsarchiv der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar sowie das Fachgebiet Stadtumbau und Ortserneuerung der Rheinland-Pfälzischen Technischen Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau laden ein zu einem fachpolitischen Symposium zum Gedenken an Prof. Dr. Rolf Kuhn. Im Rahmen der Philipp-Schwartz-Initiative der Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung hat die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar die Möglichkeit erhalten, ein Philipp-Schwartz-Stipendium zu vergeben. In diesem Zusammenhang ist seit Juli 2024 Dr. Liubov Chernysheva als Postdoc-Stipendiatin an der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar tätig. Ihre Mentorin ist Jun.-Prof. Dr. Daniela Zupan (European Cities and Urban Heritage).

In 2012, Prof. Dr. Barbara Schönig was appointed head of the Department of Urban Planning. She held this position until 2021, when she was appointed State Secretary for the Thüringer Ministerium für Infrastruktur und Landwirtschaft, a position she held for over two years. In July 2024, she will be returning to the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and preparing to teach in the 2024/2025 winter semester.
