The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Condemns the Violence and Oppression Committed Against Iranian Women, Students and Academics

On 13 September 2022, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman Zhina (Mahsa) Amini was arrested by the so-called morality police in Tehran for allegedly not wearing her hijab in accordance with government standards. Some days after her arrest, Zhina (Mahsa) Amini died in hospital. Her death was caused by lethal police brutality while in custody.

Die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar verurteilt die Gewalt und Repressionen gegenüber iranischen Frauen, Studierenden und Wissenschaftler*innen

Am 13. September 2022 wurde in Teheran die 22-jährige Kurdin Zhina (Mahsa) Amini von der sogenannten Sittenpolizei festgenommen, weil sie ihr Kopftuch nicht den Vorschriften gemäß getragen haben soll. Wenige Tage nach der Festnahme verstarb Zhina (Mahsa) Amini aufgrund tödlicher Polizeigewalt in der Haft in einem Krankenhaus.

Diary »SCIP plastics«, Episode 1: How everything begins

The research team of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eckhard Kraft addresses a global problem: the plastic waste in our oceans. Thousands of years pass before it decomposes. The waste breaks down into smaller and smaller particles. They often mistake sea creatures for food, swallow them and often die from it in agony. The engineers at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, together with a team from Bangladesh and the Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE), are researching how to ensure that the garbage does not end up in the sea.

Interdisciplinary Team of Students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Wins German Design Council International Competition with Sustainable Plant Pot

Nora Giuliana Iannone, a Master’s student of architecture, and Massimo Scheidegger, a student from the Bachelor’s programme in Produktdesign, are among the winners of the international »ein&zwanzig« competition with their project »Future Artifact – Charby«. Their design for a planter made of vegetable carbon that binds CO2 is thus one of the total of 21 designs that have been invited to exhibit at the renowned design fair »Salone del Mobile« taking place in Milan from 6 to 12 June 2022.

Internationale Verkehrskonferenz: Forschungsaustausch in Kroatien

Seit vielen Jahren erforscht die Professur Verkehrssystemplanung Themen der Verkehrssicherheit und bildet darüber hinaus Sicherheitsauditorinnen und -auditoren für Straßen aus. Auf der internationalen Konferenz »Ceste« in Rovinj erhielten die Mitarbeitenden der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar neue Impulse zur Durchführung von Sicherheitsanalysen.

Historische Weimarer Schlosskapelle »Himmelsburg« ab dem 10. April virtuell erlebbar

Im Rahmen der »Thüringer Bachwochen« können Kunst- und Kulturinteressierte vom 10. April bis 01. Mai 2022 ein exklusives Konzert von Johann Sebastian Bach virtuell erleben: Mithilfe von VR-Brillen und Kopfhören wird die Kantate 182 »Himmelskönig, sei Willkommen« in der historischen Schlosskirche Weimar an ihrem Ursprungsort wieder seh- und hörbar. Realisiert wurde das digitale Klang-Projekt unter Beteiligung der Professur Bauphysik an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar informs about Funding Opportunities for Refugee Ukrainian Academics

The Department of Research has published a compilation of various funding agencies that have adapted or expanded their funding programs specifically for refugee scientists from Ukraine. The aim is to provide financial support to people who have already left their home country or will have to leave in the foreseeable future. The links to the research funders on the page are updated continuously.

Besondere Auszeichnung: Weimarer Professor wird Gründungsmitglied der IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Academy

Die IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Academy wurde in diesem Jahr im Rahmen der Fachkonferenz »IEEE VR 2022« gegründet mit dem Ziel, international führende Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus Industrie und Forschung der virtuellen und erweiterten Realität unter einem Dach zu vereinen. Durch die Aufnahme in die prestigeträchtige Academy werden Persönlichkeiten für besondere Leistungen und bedeutende Beiträge auf diesen Gebieten geehrt. Prof. Dr. Bernd Fröhlich, Professur für Systeme der virtuellen Realität an der Fakultät Medien der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, wurde am 14. März 2022 als »inaugural member« vorgestellt.

Special Recognition: Weimar Professor named founding member of the IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Academy

The IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Academy was founded this year during the »IEEE VR 2022« conference with the goal of bringing international scientists from the virtual and augmented reality industry and research field together under one roof. Members of the Academy are recognised for their outstanding achievements and contributions in these fields. Prof. Dr. Bernd Fröhlich, Professor of Virtual Reality Systems in the Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, was introduced as an inaugural member on 14 March 2022.

Bauhaus Spring School: Studierende aus ganz Europa kommen an die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Vom 10. bis 19. März 2022 nehmen 12 Studierende der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und 93 Studierende ihrer europäischen Partneruniversitäten an der ersten Bauhaus Spring School teil. In fünf Kursen zu den Themen Architektur und Urbanistik, Kunst und Gestaltung sowie Medien und Kultur haben die Teilnehmenden die Möglichkeit, sich auszutauschen und an gemeinsamen Projekten zu arbeiten. Das neue europäische Kurzzeitprogramm startete bereits im Wintersemester 2021/22 mit Online-Kursen und wird nun mit einer zehntägigen Präsenzphase in Weimar fortgeführt.
