Bauhaus4EU Student Council Convenes for Inaugural Meeting at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

From 6 to 9 November 2024, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar hosted the first meeting of the Bauhaus4EU Student Council. Student representatives from all nine countries within the Bauhaus4EU university alliance met to lay the foundation for active and sustainable collaboration while formulating shared visions.

International Summer with the Bauhaus Summer School 2024

It’s that time again: From 7 to 31 August 2024, 230 students from over 50 countries will be in Weimar to take part in two- to three-and-a-half-week language and specialist courses at the Bauhaus Summer School. Guests are warmly invited to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus for the final presentation on 30 August beginning at 2 pm.

BAUHAUS.INSIGHTS: How is the social transformation of Germany perceived in Bangladesh?

The city of Khulna in southern Bangladesh lies on two tributaries of the Ganges. Khulna is currently battling major waste issues, including huge amounts of plastic that get washed into the city from the rivers and further into the sea. Since 2021, scientists from the Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) have been working with colleagues from the Environmental Engineering Department at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Eckhard Kraft investigating how to avoid waste in the long term and how to implement a sustainable waste management system in Khulna.

BAUHAUS4EU European University Alliance Receives 14.4 Million Euros in Funding from the European Commission

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s »BAUHAUS4EU« application for the EU’s »ERASMUS + European Universities« initiative has been approved. Together with nine other partner universities from across Europe, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be receiving 14.4 million euros over the next four years. This means that BAUHAUS4EU now belongs to the 64 » European University Alliances« funded by the EU Commission.

Prof. Peter Benz and Members of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Visit Partner Universities in Greece, Albania and Portugal

In June 2024, members of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be travelling to partner universities in Thessaloniki (Greece) and Tirana (Albania) as part of the BAUHAUS4EU University Alliance. The aim is to increase cooperation within the alliance and to plan future projects. A visit to the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece from 17 to 18 June is the first stop on the trip. Following this, from 19 to 23 June, the delegation will visit Polis University in Tirana, Albania, which specialises in architecture, urbanism, civil engineering, and design.

What Might the Future Look Like for Rural Areas in Europe? EU Expert Exchange

»From Vision to Action: Co-Creating Rural Futures« – experts from the European Commission, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the »stiftung baukultur thüringen« and the Bauhaus4EU Network will be meeting in Brussels on 25 June 2024 to discuss shaping rural areas and developing potential concepts. The aim of the event is to launch a collaborative process for the development of rural areas in cooperation with European regions in order to influence European policy decisions related to the 10th general EU programme.

Eine englischsprachige Neuerscheinung, herausgegeben von Victoria Grau und Max Welch Guerra, Professur Raumplanung und Raumforschung an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, widmet sich nun im Open Access-Format und in gedruckter Fassung europäischen Perspektiven auf das Thema.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Receives Over One Million Euros to Help Integrate International Students Into the Labour Market

At nearly 30 percent, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has a higher than average proportion of international students. Some of these students stay in Thuringia and join the workforce, but this is by no mean the majority. Just one third are successful in starting a career in Germany, specifically in Thuringia. In order to increase these numbers and integrate more international graduates into the local and national job market, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be receiving over one million euros in funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) »FIT - Promoting Academic Success and Labour Market Integration of International Talents« programme.

Modellprojekteforum »Reflective Urban Practice«. 17 Studierende und acht Praxispartner des internationalen Masterstudiengangs »Integrated Urban Development and Design« (IUDD) stellen an zwei Tagen aktuelle Projekte der Stadtentwicklung aus Praxis und Forschung im Oberlichtsaal der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar vor.

Ringvorlesungsreihe »Identität und Erbe« startet am 9. April ins Sommersemester

Am Dienstag, 9. April 2024, 18.30 Uhr, eröffnet Ewa Majewska, feministische Kulturtheoretikerin und außerordentliche Professorin an der SWPS-Universität in Warschau, die Ringvorlesung im Sommersemester 2024. Weiterhin werden in der Reihe Philipp Oswalt, Sharon MacDonald, Bengü Kocatürk-Schuster, Alia Mossallam, Jörn Düwel, Marion Steiner, Tilman Walther, Tuuli Lähdesmäki, Sophie Stackmann, Uta Bretschneider und Ariella Azoulay an den Standorten des Graduiertenkollegs in Berlin, Weimar und Erfurt vortragen.

Ehrenamt weltweit: Dr. Luise Nerlich vertritt Deutschland im Children-Work-Programme der Union Internationale des Architectes

Dr. Luise Nerlich, kommissarische Leiterin der Professur Bauformenlehre an der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, vertritt Deutschland in der Union Internationale des Architectes (UIA). Für die Legislaturperiode 2023 bis 2026 wurde sie neben Dr. Tillman Prinz, Geschäftsführer der Bundesarchitektenkammer, für die Arbeitsgruppe »Architecture and Children« nominiert und übernimmt damit als festes Mitglied das Amt von Dr. Hannes Hubrich, der die Arbeitsgruppe viele Jahre als Gast begleitet hat.

Third and final workshop in the »Listening to the World - 100 Years of Radio« research project starts in Johannesburg

After two successful workshops in Montevideo (Uruguay) and Sagada (Philippines), the third Bauhaus.Listening.Workshop will now take place in Johannesburg from 17 to 22 March 2024. It will bring together sound practitioners and theorists from Southern Africa to exchange ideas about listening cultures and radio history in the region.

Students from all over Europe: Record number of participants in Bauhaus Spring School 2024

From 14 to 23 March, 171 students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and its European partner universities will be taking part in the third Bauhaus Spring School. Participants will be able to collaborate creatively and engage in intercultural networking in eight courses relating to the topics of architecture, urbanism, art, design, media, culture, technology and the environment. The international short-term programme began in January 2024 with online courses and will now continue with a nine-day in-person phase in Weimar.

Coal is Old News: Students Present Visions for the Future at the Climate Change Conference

As part of the Bauhaus.Module »After the Co(al)lapse: Envision the Future!«, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students were tasked with developing creative concepts for the ecological restoration of a former lignite (sometimes referred to as brown coal) power plant. In December 2023, the student group presented their results at the UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai.

International Office Awards »Ima Rek« Student Group with Special Prize for Their Commitment to Ukrainian Refugees

During the nomination process for the 2023 DAAD Prize, the attention of the International Office was brought to a group of international students who are helping refugees from Ukraine in Weimar. The group has been awarded a special prize recognising their dedication. The award includes a cash prize of 1000 euros.
