Dare to Design – German Design Graduates Show 2024 stellt drei Arbeiten aus der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar aus

Vom 31. August 2024 bis zum 5. Januar 2025 zeigt die Ausstellung »Dare to Design« des Rat für Formgebung im Museum Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt am Main innovative Projekte, Positionen und Visionen junger Produkt- und Industriedesigner*innen. Die 45 Abschlussarbeiten von 22 bundesdeutschen Hochschulen zeichnen sich durch Themenvielfalt und differenzierte Gestaltungshaltungen aus – und insbesondere durch ihr Potenzial, den gesellschaftlichen Wandel zukunftsweisend mitzugestalten. Mit dabei sind drei Abreiten aus der Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung.

Maria Fabricius-Wendt Wins »Lyonel Kunstpreis 2024«

Freie Kunst graduate Maria Fabricius-Wendt was awarded the »Lyonel Kunstpreis 2024« on Friday, 12 July 2024. The award, which honours the final projects of up-and-coming talent in the Faculty of Art and Design and comes with a 2,000 euro prize, has conferred by »Lyonel – Verein zur Förderung von Kunst, Gestaltung und Kultur (Lyonel e.V.)« since 2019.

Visuelle Kommunikation (Visual Communication) Graduate Receives »Förderpreis für junge Buchgestaltung« (Award for young book design)

On Monday, 17 June 2024, Elfi Handina Murandu was awarded one of three prizes for young book design by the Stiftung Buchkunst for her bachelor's thesis »A Book about Hair«. The publication includes 30 perspectives from Black and biracial individuals, and examines questions of belonging, adapting and representation, among others. The book is a collection of actions and behaviours from various Black realities.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Students Win Four Coveted Nails at Prestigious 2024 ADC Talent Awards

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is once again celebrating success at the annual ADC Talent Awards. Students from the Faculty of Art and Design impressed with their achievements and were honoured with numerous ADC nails in gold, silver and bronze.

On Track for Success: A Shower of Prizes for Weimar’s Concrete Canoeists

On 14 and 15 June the 19th Concrete Canoe Regatta took place in Brandenburg on the Havel. Over 1,000 students from six countries competed to prove that concrete can float. Never before have so many teams been registered. Participants included: 32 Students from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Whether competition, construction or design - Weimar impressed across the board with wins in almost all categories.

Preis im studentischen Wettbewerb mit gemeinsamer Bachelorarbeit für Architekturstudentinnen

Die Architekturstudentinnen Kerstin Baier, Linn Dohrenbusch und Leonie Richter haben mit ihrer an der Professur Entwerfen und Städtebau betreuten Bachelorthesis »Bahnhof Bovisa. Ein Typus der neuen Mobilität«(Betreuung: Dr. Steffen de Rudder) einen Preis im diesjährigen Nachwuchswettbewerb »wa award 2024« gewonnen. Der Nachwuchswettbewerb »wa award«, ausgelobt vom Verlag »wa wettbewerbe aktuell», lenkt den Blick auf studentisches Architekturschaffen. Verliehen wurden die Preise am 3. Juni 2024 im Rahmen der Preisverleihung an der Universität Stuttgart.

Architekturstudierende beteiligen sich an den Sommerkonzerten im Kloster Volkenroda

Vom 14. bis 16. Juni 2024 findet im Kloster Volkenroda das Festival »Kommmunikationsverstärker« statt, das sich thematisch mit dem Zusammenspiel und Wechselwirkungen von Musik und Architektur beschäftigt. In diesem Kontext kommen während der diesjährigen Sommerkonzerte Architekturstudierende der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar mit Musiker*innen zusammen. So führen Musiker*innen des Leipziger Gewandhausorchesters am 15. Juni um 17 Uhr, ein Improvisationskonzert auf, zu dem die Musiker*innen von Studierendenarbeiten inspiriert werden. Auch das Bühnenbild und das Wegeleitsystem werden von Studierenden entwickelt, aufgebaut und betreut.

IT meets sustainability: Student Sema Yilmaz Named BIM Champion 2024

On 7 May in Erfurt, Weimar student Sema Yilmaz was named best young talent in the category »Arbeiten von Auszubildenden und Studierenden« (Works by Trainees and Students) 2024 by buildingSMART Deutschland for her Bachelor’s thesis »BIM und Baustoffe« (BIM and Building Materials). Her work involved analysing eco-indicators of building materials and transferring object-related material properties into digital data models. The jury explained its decision saying the up-and-coming engineer of building materials thus made an important contribution to environmentally sustainable construction.

Am 10. April läutete die »Fakultät Bau- und Umweltingenieurwissenschaften« (kurz: Bau und Umwelt) das Sommersemester 2024 im Audimax der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ein. Gemeinsam mit hunderten Gästen zelebrierten Forschende, Lehrende und Studierende das 70. Jubiläum sowie die Neuausrichtung der Fakultät in einem bunten, geselligen Rahmen.

Typography exhibition poster successful in the »100 Beste Plakate« (100 Best Posters) competition

Visual Communication students Johanna Mehner and Ossian Osborne won one of the prestigious awards in the renowned competition for the 100 best posters from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A total of 2,333 posters from 667 entrants competed for one of the coveted places.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Awarded »Gleichstellungsstarke Hochschule« Title in the »Professorinnenprogramm 2030«

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has successfully made it through the first round in the federal and state »Professorinnenprogramm 2030« call for applications. This makes it one of 92 universities in Germany that impressed the jury and received an award for their gender equality policies, structures and measures. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar was one of just 22 universities who were additionally awarded the title of »Gleichstellungsstarke Hochschule« (universities with strong gender equality). This is the fourth time that the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has been successful in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research’s programme for strengthening gender equality at universities.

Weimar Computer Scientist Recognised for Outstanding Contributions

Prof. Dr. Eva Hornecker, Professor of Human-Computer Interaction in the Computer Science of Media Department at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, has been named a »Distinguished Member« of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). She was recognised on 17 January 2024 for her significant contributions to the field of tangible, embedded and embodied interactions (TEI). This title recognises Prof. Hornecker’s commitment to the development of the ACM TEI Conference and the wider community.

»Irgendwas mit Medien«: Serie von Alumni der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar für Grimme-Preis nominiert

Zwischen Uni-Alltag, Generation Selbstverwirklichung und der ganz großen Kunst: Die Serie »Irgendwas mit Medien« der beiden Alumni Mirko Muhshoff und Jano Kaltenbach, die an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar gedreht und von der UFA Serial Drama im Auftrag des MDR und in Zusammenarbeit mit ARD Kultur produziert wurde, ist für den diesjährigen Grimme-Preis in der Kategorie »Kinder und Jugend« nominiert.

Erster Preis im EUROPAN-Wettbewerb

Der Gemeinschaftsentwurf »INGE« zählt zu den Preisträgern des EUROPAN 17-Wettbewerbs. Maria Frölich-Kulik und Atidh Jonas Langbein, Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeitende an der Professur Landschaftsarchitektur und -planung der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, sowie Matti Drechsel, Urbanistikabsolvent der Fakultät, haben für den Standort Ingolstadt ein Konzept zur nachhaltigen Transformation von Infrastruktur entwickelt.

Prädikat »Besonders Wertvoll« für Dokumentarfilm »Handmade in Bangladesh«

Die Jury der Deutschen Film- und Medienbewertung (FBW) hat in ihrer Sitzung im November 2023 den Dokumentarfilm »Handmade in Bangladesh« von Liz Bachhuber, langjährige Professorin des Studiengangs Freie Kunst, und Florian Wehking, künstlerischer Mitarbeiter der Professur Ressourcenwirtschaft an der Fakultät Bauingenieurwesen, einstimmig das Prädikat »Besonders Wertvoll« verliehen. »Ein kluger und reflektierter Blick in ein faszinierendes Land im Aufbruch«, urteilten die Expert*innen in ihrer Begründung.

Coal is Old News: Students Present Visions for the Future at the Climate Change Conference

As part of the Bauhaus.Module »After the Co(al)lapse: Envision the Future!«, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students were tasked with developing creative concepts for the ecological restoration of a former lignite (sometimes referred to as brown coal) power plant. In December 2023, the student group presented their results at the UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai.

International Office Awards »Ima Rek« Student Group with Special Prize for Their Commitment to Ukrainian Refugees

During the nomination process for the 2023 DAAD Prize, the attention of the International Office was brought to a group of international students who are helping refugees from Ukraine in Weimar. The group has been awarded a special prize recognising their dedication. The award includes a cash prize of 1000 euros.

Betül Peker Wins 2023 DAAD Prize

This year’s DAAD Prize goes to Betül Peker from Türkiye. In addition to her outstanding academic achievements in her Media Art and Design Master's programme, she has demonstrated an impressive range of intercultural and social commitment both within and outside of the University.

»Bauhaus Participation Lab« Receives Over One Million Euros in Funding for Joint Urban Development and Virtual Reality Project

Over the next three years, the Departments of Computer Science in Architecture, Urban Studies and Social Research, and Virtual Reality and Visualisation in the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and the Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be working together with partners in Weimar and Berlin to research how citizens can participate in urban development processes using virtual reality. The »Bauhaus Participation Lab« joint project is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with nearly 1.3 million euros.

»Zauberberg« and »Maß der Dinge« – Outstanding Final Theses Awards for Architecture and Urbanism

At the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism’s graduation ceremony on 17 November 2023, awards were presented for outstanding final thesis projects. The 23 Bachelor and Master projects nominated by the faculty's departments will be on display in the Main Building until 8 December 2023. The works on display include four award-winning projects from the »Design« and »Research« categories, as well as nine projects that received honourable mentions.
