Second place in the German Study Award: Weimar media scholar acknowledged for outstanding doctorate

Martin Siegler, who is a research associate within the Professorship for Media Philosophy at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, has been awarded second prize in the humanities and cultural studies section of the 2022 German Study Prize for his dissertation on the subject of media articulations of human existence in emergency and catastrophe situations. Conferred by the Körber Foundation, this award honours outstanding work of particular social significance.

Fellowships for Digital Teaching Formats at Thuringian Universities: Staff at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Awarded Fellowships for Innovations in Digital Teaching

From this autumn, Prof. Dr. Andrea Dreyer (Professor of Art Education, Faculty of Art and Design) and Prof. Dr. Bernd Fröhlich (Professor of Virtual Reality Systems, Faculty of Media) will receive funding from the »Innovationen in der digitalen Hochschullehre« joint fellowship programme of the donors’ association (Stifterverband) of the German initiative to promote education, science and innovation (Deutsche Wissenschaft e. V.) and the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society. The state of Thuringia is supporting teaching concepts with up to €50,000 to encourage innovations in digital university teaching.

Fine art graduate Hannes Dünnebier conferred the Lyonel Art Prize

On Friday 15 July 2022, Hannes Dünnebier was honoured with the Lyonel Art Prize during the »summaery2022« annual show at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The award for outstanding young artists is endowed with €2,000 and has been conferred to artistic dissertations from the Faculty of Art and Design since 2019 by the Lyonel e. V. association for the promotion of art, design and culture.

Sonderpreis in der Sustainability Challenge der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen für Masterstudentinnen

Die Architekturstudentinnen Marie Heyer und Nora Iannone haben für ihre Masterthesis »Materialgeschichten« (Betreuung: Professur Bauformenlehre) einen Sonderpreis in der Kategorie Forschung in der diesjährigen Sustainability Challenge der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB) erhalten.

Students of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar successful in the 36th Poster Competition of the Deutsches Studentenwerk (German National Association for Student Affairs - DSW)

Works by no less than three students of Visual Communication, Faculty of Art and Design, were chosen among the 29 best posters in the competition, which was held under the motto »Campus life digital«. Hanyi Kim took second place with her poster »Studying at Home«. Further awards went to Leela Dutta for »Behind the Scenes« and Hannes Naumann with his poster »In the Window«.

Die Masterthesis »Das Kooperative Haus« von Danny Liu und Kai Pieper ist im Neighbourhood Index der Oslo Architecture Triennale veröffentlicht worden. Der digital zugängliche Index ist eine Sammlung von projects, practices, perspectives mit Vorschlägen, wie Nachbarschaft unter verschiedenen Punkten der Nachhaltigkeit, der Diversität und der Gesellschaft lebenswerter gestaltet werden kann.

Green Concept Award 2022 für Produktentwicklung an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Den Green Concept Award 2022 in der Rubrik Neue Materialien hat das Produkt »Bau.Salz Deutschland« von Fiona Zimmer, Jonathan Peters und Johannes Dörfer erhalten. Die Produktentwicklung haben 2020/21 gemeinsam die Professur Konstruktives Entwerfen und Tragwerkslehre und das FA Finger-Institut für Baustoffkunde an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar als freies Projekt betreut.

A silver nail and three awards for work from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar at the Talent Award of the Art Directors Club (ADC)

At this year's ADC Young Talent Competition, the master's thesis »Man störe mir meine Kreise nicht« (Don't disturb my circles) by Masihne Rasuli was awarded a Silver Nail. Another three awards for publications went to Leela Dutta for »Die Nachtwachtel« (The Night Quail), to Annika Daub, Hanna Hofmann and Simon Geistlinger for »Drei Esel, Sizilien« (Three donkeys, Sicily) and to Leoni Hommel, Emily Grawitter, Johanna Mehner, Hannah Röbisch and Lina Unger for »Type & Feminisms«.

Doppelter Erfolg für Studierende im Architektur-Nachwuchswettbewerb »wa aktuell«

Gleich zwei Arbeiten waren im diesjährigen studentischen Ideenwettbewerb der Fachzeitschrift »wa aktuell« erfolgreich: Jana Katharina Bolten erhält für ihre Abschlussarbeit im Master Architektur zur Umnutzung von Center Architekturen der 1990er einen von fünf Preisen, eine von fünf Anerkennungen geht an Paul Zimmermann und Victoria Grossardt für ihre Semesterarbeit zu einem Europäischen Zentrum für das Erleben und Erforschen fragiler maritimer Welten.

Interdisciplinary Team of Students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Wins German Design Council International Competition with Sustainable Plant Pot

Nora Giuliana Iannone, a Master’s student of architecture, and Massimo Scheidegger, a student from the Bachelor’s programme in Produktdesign, are among the winners of the international »ein&zwanzig« competition with their project »Future Artifact – Charby«. Their design for a planter made of vegetable carbon that binds CO2 is thus one of the total of 21 designs that have been invited to exhibit at the renowned design fair »Salone del Mobile« taking place in Milan from 6 to 12 June 2022.

Bauhaus-Guest Professor Diébédo Francis Kéré Awarded the 2022 Pritzker Architecture Prize

Architect Diébédo Francis Kéré is this year’s winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, considered the Nobel Prize of architecture and the highest honour awarded in the field. The jury singled out Kéré in no small part because of his approach to planning and building and his use of local materials in combination with local construction methods, which characterises his work as far more advanced than that of many other architects. Kéré building solutions are not only attuned to their respective locations, but also implemented together with the local community.

Special Recognition: Weimar Professor named founding member of the IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Academy

The IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Academy was founded this year during the »IEEE VR 2022« conference with the goal of bringing international scientists from the virtual and augmented reality industry and research field together under one roof. Members of the Academy are recognised for their outstanding achievements and contributions in these fields. Prof. Dr. Bernd Fröhlich, Professor of Virtual Reality Systems in the Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, was introduced as an inaugural member on 14 March 2022.

Zukunftsperspektiven für den Wissenschaftsjournalismus: Neues BMBF-Projekt begleitet aussichtsreiche Innovationsprojekte

In diesem Frühjahr startet an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ein vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) gefördertes Forschungsprojekt zu Innovationen im digitalen Journalismus. Im Rahmen wissenschaftlicher Begleitforschung wird Jun.-Prof. Dr. Christopher Buschow mit seinem Team der Juniorprofessur »Organisation und vernetzte Medien« Erfolgsbedingungen sowie Barrieren wissenschaftsjournalistischer Innovationsprojekte untersuchen.

Vier Abschlussarbeiten aus dem Bereich »Experimentelles Radio« im Programm von Deutschlandfunk

Das Jahr 2021 war für die Absolventinnen und Absolventen im Studiengang Medienkunst / Mediengestaltung besonders erfolgreich: Gleich vier Produktionen haben es in die Hörspiel- und Feature-Planung von Deutschlandfunk geschafft und werden ausgestrahlt. Zwei der Abschlussarbeiten werden zusätzlich im Rahmen einer neuen Kooperation der Professur »Experimentelles Radio« mit dem Theater Erfurt in einem neuen Format unter dem Titel »Hör.Box« im Frühjahr zur Aufführung gebracht.

Florian Henschel receives German Ecodesign Award in the »Young Talent« category for his »MateriaLab« final thesis

»MateriaLab« are experimental kits on the topic of waste and recycling for children, which Florian Henschel, a product design graduate from the Faculty of Art and Design at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, developed as part of his bachelor's thesis. The set offers young pupils the opportunity to carry out various recycling and waste processes themselves. The aim of the experiments is to give children a playful awareness of the value and characteristics of waste and to introduce them to responsible waste handling.
