German Sustainability Award: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Recognised as a Green Educational Institution

Sustainability is a top priority for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Specific measures in teaching, research, and operations are designed to reduce climate and environmental impacts. In addition to the energy-efficient renovation of University buildings, the conscious use of resources is also taken into consideration. Research and teaching projects that focus on sustainability help to promote knowledge transfer in the region. These efforts were recognized by the German Sustainability Award Foundation with a nomination in the »Schulen und Hochschulen« category for 2026.

Renowned JANUS Award Presented to Weimar Student at International FullDome Festival

Lilian Fuchs, Media Art and Design student at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, was honoured with the JANUS Award in the »Best Emerging Artist« category during the 20th International FullDome Festival at the Zeiss-Planetarium Jena. Fuchs received the internationally renowned award for her 360° film »Remaining«. Four additional student productions from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar were also included in the Festival programme.

Scholarship Ceremony 2026: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Honours Commitment and Outstanding Achievements

On Friday, 10 July 2026, 50 Bauhaus-Universität Weimar scholarship recipients gathered during summaery in the Oberlichtsaal for this year’s Scholarship Ceremony. Students, doctoral candidates, and alumni took the opportunity to discuss their studies, research, and community engagement projects and to learn about the diverse paths they are all pursuing alongside their academic careers.

Resilient and Environmentally-Friendly Building Materials: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Students Honoured

Sharleen Richter and Lukas Koops were awarded the »thomas zement 2026« sponsorship prize for their outstanding theses in building materials engineering. The award ceremony took place on 15 July 2026 at the F.A. Finger-Institute for Building Material Engineering at Coudraystraße.

Jakob Elias Meyer Wins Lyonel Kunstpreis 2026

Freie Kunst graduate Jakob Elias Meyer was awarded the Lyonel Kunstpreis 2026 on Friday 10 July 2026 for his work »Subsistenzprovisorium«. The Award, which comes with 2,000 euros in prize money, has been granted to artistic theses at the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since 2019. The »Lyonel-Verein zur Förderung von Kunst, Gestaltung und Kultur« (Lyonel e.V.) is a non-profit organisation that supports the promotion of art, design, and culture.

2026 Teaching Awards: Five Teaching Formats Recognised for Outstanding Commitment

On Thursday 9 July 2026, the StuKo (Student Government) awarded the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Teaching Award to five teaching formats that students rated as particularly successful. The awards ceremony took place in front of the Main Building as part of the opening of the annual summaery exhibition.

Vom Hackathon aufs Siegertreppchen: Studierende der Fakultät Medien ausgezeichnet

Innerhalb von nur 36 Stunden innovative KI-Lösungen für reale Industrieanwendungen entwickeln: Dieser Herausforderung stellten sich Studierende der Fakultät Medien beim »CGI AI Hackathon« im Rahmen der »20th Silicon Saxony Days 2026«. Mit zwei Teams aus einem Projekt von Dr. Andreas Jakoby nahm die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar an dem interdisziplinären Wettbewerb teil und gehörte zu den erfolgreichsten Hochschulen des Hackathons.

Double Success: Weimar Students Receive Emerging Artist Funding for Socially Critical Photography Projects

Two photography projects from the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (by Mai Do and Teresa Fischer) are among the eight works selected for the new »Expanded Horizons« international funding programme. The »Körber-Stiftung« and the »Haus der Photographie der Deichtorhallen Hamburg« are awarding 1,000 euros in prize money and production funding to each project for further development. Starting in November 2026, the »PHOXXI – Haus der Photographie« in Hamburg will be showcasing the projects in an exhibition.

Betonkanu-Regatta 2026: Studierende aus Weimar landen erneut auf dem Siegertreppchen

Am 19. und 20. Juni fand die 20. Betonkanu-Regatta in Brandenburg an der Havel statt. Mehr als 1.000 Studierende reisten an den Beetzsee, um im sportlichen Wettkampf gegeneinander anzutreten. Insgesamt paddelten 64 Damen-, 73 Herren- sowie 43 Mixed-Teams um den Sieg – die Studierenden der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar erreichten dreimal das Finale und ergatterten zweimal Bronze. Für die außergewöhnliche Gestaltung der Betonboote im Zwiebel-Look wurde die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar mit dem ersten Platz ausgezeichnet.

Students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar succeeded at the ADC Talent Award 2026

Three students from the Faculty of Art and Design won the coveted ADC Nails at the ADC Talent Award 2026: Nina Buschendorf received a Silver Nail for her »Sexismus gibt es erst seit 23 Stunden« project, Xiaoyi Jin was also awarded a Silver Nail for her »TRIADISCHER GIN« project, and Mai Do was awarded a Bronze Nail for her »VOXAIPE – Decoded« project. Eight additional works received a total of nine awards.

Success for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism: Two student teams have already been recognised at the prestigious »wa award 2026«, the most important competition for young architects. With international entries from 100 students from over 30 countries, two projects from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students secured a prize and an honourable mention.

»Blob und der Wolf« begeistert erneut: Alumni der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar gewinnen Publikumspreis beim Filmfest Dresden

Der Kurzfilm »Blob und der Wolf« von Georg Kästle und Valentin Bolte erhielt beim 38. Filmfest Dresden den mit 4.000 Euro dotierten MDR-Publikumspreis im Nationalen Wettbewerb, sowie eine Lobende Erwähnung der Jugendjury. Beide Filmemacher studierten Medienkunst/Mediengestaltung an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Media Art and Design Students Honoured at »kurzsuechtig« Film Festival

Numerous Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students and alumni were awarded prizes at the »kurzsuechtig« short film festival in Leipzig. The productions honoured at the event included »Frog and Fly«, »Blob und der Wolf«, and »vremya fewral’ / STILL FEBRUARY«, with the latter receiving an honourable mention.

When a Click Reflects on a Body: Weimar Researchers Show How Online Fashion Platforms Affect Women’s Self-Image

The dress on the screen has several sizes to choose from and can be added to the basket with a click – but there is a moment of hesitation: Will it actually fit? Will I feel good in it? Will it look the same as it does in the picture? Online fashion platforms affect women’s self-image more strongly than previously thought. A recent study at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has shown that digital shopping experiences have a profound impact on body perception with consequences that affect users, the economy, and the environment. The research will be presented and awarded at the prestigious CHI Conference in Barcelona from 13 to 17 April 2026.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Recognised for »Vertikalen KlimaKlärAnlage« Research

The »Tilia Awards« were presented for the first time on 20 March 2026 for scientific and practice-based projects that take new approaches to urban spaces. Out of over 150 entries, 24 winners were selected, including the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the IAB-Institut für angewandte Bauforschung Weimar for their work in the »Akademische Arbeiten und Forschung« (academic work and research) category. The interdisciplinary »GrayToGreen« research project was honoured for its integration of vertical greening and grey water treatment.

Outstanding Success at AIV-Schinkel-Preis 2026

Huge success for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: Architecture students win the AIV-Schinkel-Preis 2026 in the »Städtebau« (urban design) category. The competition, organised by the »Architekten- und Ingenieur-Verein (AIV)« of Berlin and Brandenburg, is one of the most prestigious awards for young urban planners in the German-speaking world. Weimar was also the recipient of the special prize for »Interdisziplinär und nachhaltig bauen« (interdisciplinary and sustainable construction) and two honourable mentions. The official awards ceremony will take place on Friday, 13 March 2026 at the Stadttheater Luckenwalde as part of a celebratory event.

Alumna Leila Keivan Receives Thuringian State Scholarship for Fine Art

Leila Keivan, graduate of the »Public Art and New Artistic Strategies« degree programme in the Faculty of Art and Design, has been awarded the Thuringian State Scholarship for Fine Art. The scholarship, worth 10,000 euros, will allow her to carry out an artistic research project on home, memory, and belonging.

Produktdesign (Product Design) Graduate Named »Newcomer of the Year« at the 2026 German Design Awards

Marie Kurstjens has won the 2026 German Design Award in the »Newcomer of the Year« category. The award is accompanied with 15,000 euros in prize money. The jury commended her understanding of design as a collaborative process for solving social and humanitarian challenges. She received the award for her Bachelor's thesis »COOK/ABILITY« at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and her Master's thesis »Designing Dignity« at the Universität der Künste Berlin.
