Third Season of the Podcast »Zwischen Magie und Handwerk« to Start During the summaery2025
Dr. Simon Frisch, who is Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs, is the podcast’s host: »In the third season, the discussions will focus more on the didactic methods. While we were still searching on a theoretical-philosophical level in the first few episodes, we now consider the craft of teaching in greater depth.« Listeners can thus look forward to hearing about different perspectives from teaching, art and science: Ulrike Garde, Lucia Kempkes, Mona Mahall, Daniela Spiegel, Christiane Voss and Björn Dahlem count among the interviewees, as do students from the textile workshop. Dr. Simon Frisch not only discusses specific seminars and study programmes with his interviewees, but also talks to them about their visions for the university and how teaching could look in the future.
For him, the format’s real value lies in the dialogue itself: »The most important and interesting conversation is the one I’m having at the moment.« Teaching doesn’t just mean presenting content, but also listening – carefully and attentively. This applies both to teachers and students: »In teaching and learning, it’s not just about ›meeting people where they are‹, but also ›reaching out to them‹.«
He sees one clear takeaway from his podcast chats: »I’m learning that there are a lot of inspiring and dynamic people at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, who are passionate about their work and enjoy doing it. There are a lot of us and we’re all different.« He sees this diversity as a strength because »it’s precisely the fact that we don’t present a single united front that makes things interesting.« He believes that what sets the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar apart from other universities is a consistent focus on materials and craftsmanship that transcends faculty boundaries. »I was fascinated to discover parallels and shared touchpoints in my conversations with materials scientists, computer scientists and artists. This is exactly what we can learn here at the Bauhaus-Universität – but it is also something we could highlight even more.«
From 10 July 2025, a new episode will be released every Wednesday. A continuation is already planned in the 2025/26 winter semester: »I still have quite a few people in mind and people are constantly suggesting interesting interviewees to me. I really appreciate these tips, by the way.«
