Scholarship Ceremony 2026: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Honours Commitment and Outstanding Achievements

On Friday, 10 July 2026, 50 Bauhaus-Universität Weimar scholarship recipients gathered during summaery in the Oberlichtsaal for this year’s Scholarship Ceremony. Students, doctoral candidates, and alumni took the opportunity to discuss their studies, research, and community engagement projects and to learn about the diverse paths they are all pursuing alongside their academic careers.

The University’s Scholarship Ceremony honours individuals who have received a scholarship through the University’s Scholarship Commission. Despite the current financial challenges, numerous scholarships were awarded in 2026. The increased involvement of private sponsors through the German government’s »Deutschlandstipendium« programme was especially significant in providing financial support to 27 students.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar extends its sincere thanks to the sponsors of the »Deutschlandstipendium«:

Augsten-Stiftung, Bundesverband der Deutschen Ziegelindustrie e. V., Dr. Stefan Kubens, Ernst-Abbe-Stiftung, Freundeskreis der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar e. V., Inverso Gesellschaft für innovative Versicherungssoftware mbH, Isabel Bindan, Marx-Krontal-Partner GmbH Weimar, Neufert-Stiftung, Organisationskomitee Matrikeltreffen M80, Prof. Dr. Jacqueline Otten, Soroptimist International Club Weimar, Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen, Stadt Ilmenau, Stellenticket GmbH, Thomas Apel, and the WBB Aktiengesellschaft.

The University is currently looking for supporters for the upcoming funding year. Donations for the 2927/2028 »Deutschlandstipendium« can be made until the end of February 2027.

Five international students were also each awarded a three-month graduation scholarship as part of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) STIBET I programme, which supports international students in the final phases of their studies.

All scholarship recipients share more than just academic excellence in their undergraduate or doctoral degree programmes: They are all actively involved in campus life and the broader community, taking on responsibilities and carrying out their own projects. Two recipients provided insights into their work during the Ceremony: Ameer Al-Masoud presented his art project »Kartoffiennale«, which brings people together and fosters a sense of community in Heichelheim. Lena Hecker presented her doctoral research on the consequences of the Halle-Neustadt prefab housing estate being designated a historical landmark.

Welcoming remarks and speeches were delivered by University President Prof. Peter Benz, Prof. Tom Lahmer, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Tina Meinhardt, Equal Opportunity Officer at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Insights into the projects, motivation, and dedication of scholarship recipients can be found in the 2026 Scholarship Gallery.
