Project description
This semester project is based on the EU missions 2021 and aims to develop future urban solutions for a more inclusive, healthier, and smarter state of Thuringia by five groups of master students from various study programs: Architecture, Media Architecture, Integrated Urban Development and Design.
Taking the current rurban development challenges into consideration, the rural district of Gotha (Landkreis Gotha) has been taken as a pioneer region. Two subprojects have been developed over a semester period in the rural district of Gotha with their own characters.
Subproject 1 is located in Fahner Höhe and focus on a rurban transformation of a traditional fruit production area. In this subproject, students were trying to first identify the current rurban problems by researching and through some private fieldtrips to Gierstädt, visiting the Fahner Frucht GmbH and sales cooperative of Fahner Obst. Having done research on rurban morphology and understood the needs of the residents as well as the employees in Gierstädt, five groups of students came up with five design proposals for intensifying the local agriculture development in fruits farming and distribution.
Subproject 2 is about tourism development in Bad Tabarz and Friedrichroda with the local 'KUR-tradition'. In this subproject, students were experimenting how one can integrate the five elements of 'Kneipp' concept into facilitating local tourism experience.
