admINT - Internationalisation of Administration

The admINT initiative is carried out by decision of the rectorate under the direction of the International Office and in close cooperation with the Language Centre and the Personnel Department. These measures serve to implement guidelines 1, International Actors, and 6, International Structure, formulated in the Internationalisation Strategy 2016-2020.

As a "model project for improving the culture of openness," admINT is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as part of the STIBET II programme line with funds from the German Federal Foreign Office.

Mission

Goals of project phase 1 (2015 - 2017)

  1. Strengthening linguistic and intercultural competencies
  2. Increasing acceptance of the goal of internationalisation through collaboration  and assuming responsibility in the internationalisation process
  3. Establishment and expansion of networks within the university, with local actors and international partners.

Goals of project phase 2 (2018 - 2020) with a focus on sustainability:

  1. Institutionalised intercultural personnel development
  2. Strengthening the role of supervisory staff in the project
  3. Working in networks

Background

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar already offers a comprehensive range of support measures for its international students (who make up more than 23% of the student body). However, creating a culture of openness can only be accomplished to a limited extent through meeting programs and integration measures; rather, it is essentially supported by an internal attitude of the employees.

The administration is of particular importance for the satisfaction of the students and their academic success. Academic staff alone cannot guarantee comprehensive support. As a logical step in the internationalisation process of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the admINT project is explicitly aimed at administrative personnel. The training and support of staff will establish an international atmosphere of appreciation for all members of the university and, in particular, further improvement of the fundamental conditions for international students.

Project team

The project will be monitored by a consulting team made up of representatives  from university administration and services and the administrations of the four faculties. The aim is to ensure that the measures are as close as possible to the actual work situation and the needs of the target group. The team members also act as multipliers in communicating the project, its measures and its continuity.

External partners are Thuringia Student Services (Projekt „kompTEAM“)  the immigration authorities of the city of Weimar (Projekt „Willkommensbehörde“) and the Hochschule für Musik „Franz Liszt“ Weimar. The internationalisation of Weimar as a university city will be sustainably strengthened by resources and expertise acting in concert as well as measures which are coordinated both in terms of content and organisation.
