Water and the Environment
The Bauhaus-University Weimar / Germany offers a distance learning course on Environmental Engineering and Sanitation, entitled “Water and the Environment”. Our Masters program has been offered since 1996 in German. An adaptation of the content to the English language currently is underway. The first two courses that from now on can be studied in English, with 8 credit points each, cover the following topics:
“Basic process engineering in industrial wastewater treatment”; and
“Applied process engineering in industrial wastewater treatment”.

Our courses are state of the art and science. Learning materials are up-dated in a two-year cycle, making sure that new and up-to-date materials are always provided.
At the present time, we offer 240 credits in German and 16 credits in total in English for distance learning in higher education (M.Sc.). Additional modules in English will be available in the near future. The next course to be available in English, with approximately 16 credit points, will be on:
“Innovative sanitation-systems and eco sanitation”.
We expect to offer a full Master course within the next 3 to 4 years entirely in the English language. All courses available here will be full creditable on the master course later.
Distance learning: requirements and process
Our courses are self contained thematically. They can be studied as they offered without any entry requirements. Though a certain previous knowledge on engineering and/or sanitation is useful.
Students studying our course will be provided with study materials in printed form and in digital in pdf format. Over our online learning-platform the students are in contact with an advisor. The advisor will also send tasks in a 2-week cyclye that the student will work on with the help of the study materials. On each curse 4-5 tasks will be given, based on the results achieved, the student will be given a grade. If 60% of the possible score is achieved, the student will be provided with a certificate by the Bauhaus-University Weimar. If the score is lower than 60% the students can repeat the course to improve the grade.
We are very proud to produce our own educational books as bases for our Master course, as well as for the free book market. The success of our books in Germany states their high quality and educational content. With our first online courses on industrial wastewater treatment (see above) our first two educational books in English language have been published. These books are available in book stores or can be ordered directly. Just get in contact with us via email or phone.
After a successful participation a certificate will be issued to the students. This is to certify which course, which amount of hours and at what score the course was studied. Please klick here to have a look at the certificate!
The costs of our courses include a book with the study material, a digital version of our study material, access to our online platform and assistance by an advisor. It also contains after a successful participation the certificate and any postage.

The Bauhaus-University Weimar
Our university is built upon a foundation of honored traditions. Some of the most significant chapters of art and architectural history were written at the Bauhaus University. Founded in 1860 as a school of arts and crafts, it became the place of the revolution of design, the “Staatliches Bauhaus” of Walter Gropius in 1919. In 1954 the faculty of civil engineering, where the study course on Water and the Environment is offered, was founded. Over the years the university further developed to the modern University it is today. Additional facts and information of the history of the University can be found at the following site: www.uni-weimar.de/en/university/profile/portrait/
