Structural health monitoring laboratory

Bauhaus University Weimar has received a 350 000 EUR grant for funding a "Structural Health Monitoring Laboratory". The laboratory is sponsored by the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRD) and the Thuringian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Science and Digital Society through the "RIS3 Innovation Strategy" of the Free State of Thuringia in compliance with the state directive "Funding of Research, Technology, and Innovations".

The Structural Health Monitoring Laboratory at Bauhaus University Weimar aims at integrating sensing, actuating, and computation technologies. The goal is to support researchers and students, providing opportunities for developing innovative, new structural health monitoring concepts towards automated collecting, processing, and analyzing structural, environmental, and operational data of infrastructure systems. Three major areas of structural health monitoring and data analysis are strengthened, (i) intelligent sensor networks, (ii) mobile/remote monitoring, and (iii) adaptive structures. Embedded into the future concept of Bauhaus University Weimar and the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the SHM lab is located in the university's "Digital Engineering" priority area. The lab will support a broad wealth of applied research efforts of students and faculty throughout Bauhaus University.

The Structural Health Monitoring Laboratory is a joint project of the Chair of Computing in Civil Engineering, the Chair of Modelling and Simulation of Structures and the Chair of Steel Construction.
