In the post graduate programme, the doctoral candidates are supported by scientists. The scientists can be divided into four groups.
- Applicants: Scientists who are responsible for the wording and realization of the basic scientific main topics are combined in the group of the applicants.
- Cooperation partner: The cooperation partner combines scientists who particularly represent the connection to the typical, practical sub-disciplines.
- Graduated young PhD. scientists and researchers: The group of graduated young PhD. scientists and researchers integrates exceptional development potential and represents an important interface not only for sustainable research topics but also for the Ph:D students.
- International cooperation partner: The fourth group embraces the international scientific partners who are tied into the scientific support of the colleagues and into the documentary channel with special topics in completion of the spectrum of the applicants.
The efficient cooperation of scientists from these four groups is carried by the common support of the colleagues through a group of mentors with at least one member of the groups mentioned above.
The excellence of the post graduate programme with regard to the research topic, the personnel equipment and the structural bases is ensured through:
- the occupation with a, to date, unsolved, very complex and several sub-disciplines of the civil engineering integrated topics: The aim of the applied post graduate programme consists of the investigation in a basically new methodology for the quantitative assessment of the forecast quality of coupled partial models in civil engineering. The provided topic goes beyond the occupation with individual, very specific aspects of the difficulties. From an engineering point of view, the topic is very demanding. It represents a narrow connection to practice relevant questions of engineering, however, at the same time, it mandatorily requires the integration of several sub-disciplines of the civil engineering.
- a sub-discipline spanned cooperation with the supervision of the PhD. students by internationally acclaimed scientists from Weimar and renowned international partners.
- a careful selection of PhD. students from national and international applications: For the selection of the PhD. students, a multistage method is planned, the professional competence and the team spirit of the applicants are examined in interviews, in seminars and by their applications.
- a long-standing, a wide research environment at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar:
- the internationally oriented "Graduate School in Structural engineering (GSSE)" exists since April 1st, 2003 at Bauhaus- Universität. Their aim is to train the participants to understand how the complex interactions between material and structure behaviour work and to find innovative solutions for future technical challenges in the areas of the constructive civil engineering in the geotechnical and the environmental engineering and ultimately develop outstanding qualified leadership personalities.
- questions for suitable partial models, their consistence preservation, integration and knowledge processing have playey a central role for the aims of the DFG programme 1103 Networked cooperative planning processes in the constructive civil engineering. The Bauhaus Universität Weimar has actively participated in working groups focussing not only on investigations of their own approaches but also contributed to the acquirement of cross-project results. The approach to the problems for the programme shall be used in post graduate programmes.
- Special research area 524 Materials and constructions for the revitalisation of buildings of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar were carried by the Professorships of the faculties Architecture and Civil Engineering. Cross-project results were achieved by a structure of the SFB in four project areas. This structure was taken up and developed further in the plan. On a national level, SFB cooperations, running parallel to each other have been developed between SPP 1103 to SFB 398 of the Ruhr University of Bochum and SFB 477 of the TU Brunswick. On an international level substantial contacts with renowned universities have been established.
To safeguard and increase the quality of the structured doctoral apprenticeship at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the Bauhaus-Universität founded the Bauhaus Research School on July 1st, 2007. It is the central scientific implementation of the Bauhaus-Universität and the holding organization for all doctorate programmes. The post graduate programme uses the synergy effects in the organizational, administrative and infrastructural area.
