Students learn how to use robotic arms in practice: Fellowship acquired for »RoboTec«

Professor Jan Willmann and Junior Professor Lars Abrahamczyk have successfully applied for one of nine fellowships from the Stifterverband and the Thuringian Ministry of Economics with their project »Robotic Tectonics – Robot-based teaching and learning environment for automated construction processes« (RoboTec). Around 50,000 euros are now available for an interdisciplinary teaching format designed to teach students how to use robotic arms in practice. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has already benefited several times from the funding for innovations in digital university teaching in Thuringia in order to develop new teaching projects.

German-Iraqi Partnership - Research Stay at Bauhaus-University Weimar

As part of the ongoing project titled "Towards Earthquake Mitigation in Iraq: EMS-98 Adopted Vulnerability Assessment of Existing Buildings," a research stay in Germany was conducted under the DAAD-funded Ta’ziz Short-Term Measures 2024 program. Coordinated by Bauhaus-University Weimar (BUW) in partnership with the University of Sulaimani (UoS) and Tishk International University (TIU), the project aims to enhance the seismic resilience of buildings in northern Iraq through collaboration and knowledge exchange between German and Iraqi academic institutions.

NextGen Engineers »Advanced Training Courses for a Sustainable Tomorrow«

In part of the Bauhaus Summer School 2024 specialized courses program for undergraduate and graduate students, the "NextGen Engineers – Advanced Training Courses for a Sustainable Tomorrow" was held from August 17th to 31st, 2024. The course featured four distinct projects and hosted 28 participants from diverse backgrounds, including Brazil, Portugal, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Ghana, Iraq, Pakistan, and Turkey. This two-week intensive course challenged participants to address complex engineering problems using modern tools, with an emphasis on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Chair of Advanced Structures participated again this year in the Summaery 2024 (PlanB) with five interesting projects from the fields of earthquake engineering, reinforced concrete, soil-structure interaction, green buildings and robotics.

World Conference on Earthquake Engineering - WCEE2024

The Chair of Advanced Structures' actively participated at the World Conference on Earthquake Engineering 2024 in Milano, Italy. Members of the team presented recent research activities, engaged in scholarly discussions, reinforced partnerships, and significantly contributed to ongoing collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the earthquake engineering community.

Concluding Meeting: Research Project iBIMD »Erasmus+«

In part of the EU-funded project "Introduction to Building Information Modelling and Digitalization (iBIMD)", the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) hosted the concluding meeting on May 31st. Participants included the Chair of Advanced Structures from Bauhaus Universität Weimar and project partners from Politehnica University of Timișoara, Romania; Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal; and Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, Italy.

Field Trip »Kalocsa-Paks Danube Bridge«

The Kalocsa-Paks Danube Bridge undergoes intensive static and dynamic testing on the 4th of May 2024. It is the 20th bridge on the Hungarian stretch of the Danube. Spanning an impressive 946 metres, the bridge is accompanied by an extensive road network and is constructed by Duna Aszfalt at a total cost of EUR 238.8 million.
