Organisational matters for students

Requirements for use

A basic requirement for using the workshops at Bauhausstraße 9d is an introduction to the workshop.

If you only want to have a workpiece digitally manufactured and do not plan to use the workshop for any other purpose, this is also possible without an introduction to the workshop. Please clarify this in advance with the workshop staff.

Early planning and coordination

To ensure the successful implementation of your project, we recommend that you contact the workshop staff as early as possible. This will allow suitable methods, work steps and production options to be coordinated in good time.

Early planning enables the staff to respond to your project in detail and to supervise the production process in such a way that your work can be completed to the desired quality and on the planned date.

Preparing your project

When consulting and planning your project, it is helpful if you bring or provide the following materials:

  • Sketches, drawings or images
  • Models or reference objects
  • Digital data of your design

The following file formats are particularly suitable for digital data transfer:

  • *.IGS for NURBS-based surface data
  • *.STL for polygonal surfaces
  • *.DXF or *.DWG for pure curve data

The workshop staff are responsible for writing the milling programmes and setting up, operating and monitoring the CNC milling work.

Costs and billing

There are costs for materials and CNC milling. These are calculated according to the processing time of your workpiece on the CNC system based on an hourly rate.
Payment is made when the component is collected via the TOSKA payment system.
