»Avito« is more than just a birdhouse. The modular station allows for feeding, watering, and cleaning and invites children to regularly engage with the bird world. The goal is to raise children’s awareness to the challenges that birds face as a result of climate change, such as changing food sources or the loss of habitats. The programme includes an accompanying educational book and interactive planner.
»This idea uses environmental learning to help children observe bird behaviour«, said the jury in its statement. »The creative design of the bird house encourages birds and makes interacting with nature immediate and engaging. This approach adds a lot of fun to the learning experience.«
»Avito« was developed based on an interspecies design approach that focuses on the needs of both children and birds. The design was based on interviews with experts, user tests, and the analysis of recorded bird interactions.
»It is an honour to win an iF Design Student Award«, says Pascal Stappen, delighted with the award. »I want to thank my supervisors, Professor Gerrit Babtist and Almut Nowack, and everyone who contributed to this project.«
