The student-initiated and organised exhibition »Unter den Nägeln« (Under the Nails) shows current works by students from all disciplines of the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. On three floors, it presents a total of 27 works by 29 artists from the fields of photography, film, sculpture, drawing, painting, installation, performance and audio from 27 April to 31 May 2022.
»We accumulate, we displace, we assemble under our fingernails. Pressure builds up and residues become obvious. Trying to work against this discomfort is a fight against the results of a ticking clock. So we shorten, wash, tidy and still collect experiences that make it itch and burn under our fingernails«, say the organisers of the exhibition.
State parliament president Birgit Keller opens the exhibition in the state parliament and says: »Art enjoyment, public debate, shared experience: After two years of pandemic and many restrictions, it literally 'burns under the nails'. As a location for meeting and democratic debate, the Landtag also offers space for artistic exhibitions: Art and creativity are part of life.«
Keller continues: »With the works of the students of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, we are not only bringing up-and-coming artists into our house. We are also making up, piece by piece, for what has been sorely lacking. Art broadens the view and offers new positions and perspectives. It is an integral part of the Landtag.«
