The international students of the master’s degree programme “Art in Public Space and New Artistic Strategies” are contributing to the »NORDOST SÜDWEST / NORTHEAST SOUTHWEST« art project in an event entitled »DIS/ORIENTING«. This involves the students spending two weeks in Dresden developing artistic works and initiatives dedicated to questions of migration, borders, belonging and traces of post-colonialism and de-colonialism in a complex present.
How can art make a contribution in societies marked by wide-ranging experiences of displacement and migration? How do we as people and artists find our bearings and take action in new and challenging situations, spaces and complex thematic realms? These and other questions will be addressed by the young artists in accompanying discussions with various international artists and curators taking place from 24 October to 6 November.
Within the framework of the transnational project»NORDOST SÜDWEST / NORTHEAST SOUTHWEST«, the work of the students involves transforming the »robotron-Kantine« and the public realm of the city of Dresden into stages on which questions of artistic work are put to the test. Together they examine the strategies of art and culture under the challenging conditions of flight, migration, war and violence as well as the associated sociopolitical tension. The project will involve the creation of artistic interventions, participatory installations and performances, which will then be presented and discussed at a final event at the robotron canteen in Dresden starting at 2 pm on Saturday, 5 November 2022.
