Sonic Talk: Dr Jörg Jacobs – Communication in Times of Tension and Defence
For the final Sonic Talk of the semester, we welcome Dr Jörg Jacobs, a researcher at the Bundeswehr Information Services Centre. Together we'll open a conversation about telecommunications infrastructure in times of crisis. Dr Jacobs asks: if smartphones have become an integral part of our daily lives, what happens when digital communication networks fail? And: how is the flow of information managed in the face of hybrid and military threats?
Dr Jacobs’ Sonic Talk, “Communication in Times of Tension and Defence”, addresses these questions. The focus is on the challenges and vulnerabilities of state crisis communication, dependence on digital infrastructures, and the role of analogue and digital information channels in times of tension and defence.
Following the lecture, we invite you to a discussion and critical debate in which questions of media ethics and state communication strategies can be examined.
