Project description

Our built environment is a testemony of our history. Time, with its conflicts and achievements, leaves its marks. Understanding its past, reflected by the characteristics of historic buildings, is an important step in the development of a specific architectural expression - an architecture, embedded in both history and collective memory and continues to perpetuate them in a continuous evolution, preserving and giving life to the architectural heritage. With this in mind this master thesis is dedicated to the design of an exhibition building in the Ensemble of Senftenberg Castle. Besides the view into the eventful past of the castle and its urban context, the focus lies on an adequate interaction with the well-preserved earthen fortifications as well as the spatial relationship between old and new. It will enable the museum within the castle to offer a wider spectrum of cultural events, and thereby ensure the future preservation of the historic monument.
