Faculty Board

The Faculty Board is the highest decision-making body in each faculty. They meet on the second Wednesday of every month. Topics of these meetings generally include university policy issues that affect the faculty. This includes, for instance, staff-related changes in teaching, the budget and events. The Dean of the respective faulty chairs the meeting and leads the discussion. Two representatives from each status group have the right to vote on the Faculty Board: This refers to two professors, two academic employees, two employees in technology and administration, and two students.

An additional five professors are involved for issues relating to studies and teaching, as the professorial status group has a majority by law. Others are typically also present during the public portion of these meetings, including, for instance, institution directors or experts from various departments in the case of urgent matters. Students are directly elected to the Faculty Board.

It is important that members attend all Faculty Board meetings, since this is where important decisions are made for the faculty. Meetings must strictly adhere to an agreed upon agenda and it is generally not possible to spontaneously introduce new points. New points must be submitted to the Extended Dean’s Office session at leas one week in advance.

Students are directly elected to the respective faculty’s Faculty Board. Students are elected as a team of two to the Faculty Board. They discuss the agenda of the upcoming meetings together and, if possible, also with their Student Council.

The Extended Dean’s Office meets on the first Wednesday of every month and discusses the Faculty Board agenda. Many of the Extended Dean’s Office members also belong to the Faculty Board (although not all), and vice versa. The meetings of the Extended Dean’s Office has no agenda and the minutes are not recorded. These meetings often include more open discussions and information exchanges. Only one of the two elected students participates in these meetings.
