Van-de-Velde Walk

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has been offering the Van-de-Velde Walk since 2011. Under the motto, »From the smallest detail to the total concept«, university students take people on the trail of the architect and designer. During the tour, the students explain the work of the multi-talented artist in Weimar and its meaning for the city and the university. In commemoration of the Van-de-Velde Year 2013, the tour also includes a visit of his residence Haus Hohe Pappeln and the Nietzsche Archive that was partially altered by Van de Velde. The walk allows visitors to experience Van de Velde’s thinking and the concept of the »total work of art«, from fixtures to room design to architecture.

You can find information about times, duration and meeting points for the walk here.

The Van-de-Velde Walk Book

Wander anew through the halls of the School of Art building, past Rodin’s Eva, up the rolling staircase to the light-filled atelier with its distinctive bent window panes, and then to the building of the former Weimar Saxon-Grand Ducal Art School, Van de Velde’s main workshop in Weimar. The recently published book that supplements the Van-de-Velde Walk reproduces the stops on the walk and conveys the spirit of Van de Velde’s architecture and aesthetic. You can find more information about the book here.

You can find more literature about Henry van de Velde on the University Press web page.
