Countering the rising volume of traffic: Sustainable restrengthening of bridges and traffic infrastructure
With increasing traffic volumes, the challenges to the existing transport infrastructure in Germany and Europe are growing continuously. Due to the fact that most of the structures are already more than 50 years old, it is necessary to provide solutions to adapt these structures to today's challenges and to make them fit for the future. Against the background of sustainable use, the reinforcement of bridge structures is an essential component in the ongoing operation of structures to allow them to grow and to avoid restrictions on use, e.g. through extensive new replacements, or to be able to prepare them for the long term.
In addition to geotechnical and stay cable products, DYWIDAG Systems International (DYWIDAG) specialises in the provision and installation of additional external post-tensioning systems for bridge strengthening. Based on concrete examples of national and European bridge strengthening projects, the lecture will give a general overview of the post-tensioning products, present the products technically - especially for bridge strengthening - and illustrate the installation under challenges such as ongoing traffic and tight time frames.
einBlick lecture series
At the beginning of the summer semester 2011, the lecture series "einBlick" started for the first time at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Bauhaus University Weimar. As part of the seminars, guests report from engineering practice to present projects from their working lives to students, staff and all interested parties.
