Im Februar 2024 jährt sich die Gründung des Instituts für Europäische Urbanistik (IfEU) zum 20. Mal. Seit 2004 widmet sich das Institut in Lehre und Forschung Fragestellungen zu städtischen und ländlichen Räumen und deren Wechselwirkungen.

Im Rahmen des DFG-Forschungsprojekts »Wohnen im Denkmal: Erhaltung und Gestaltung von denkmalgeschützten baulichen Realisierungen zentraler Wohnkonzepte des 20. Jahrhunderts«, das von der Professur Stadtplanung an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und der Professur Denkmalpflege und Bauen im Bestand an der TU Wien betreut wird, findet vom 28. bis 30.November 2024 eine internationale Konferenz mit dem Titel »20th-Century Housing Heritage in Europe: Conserving, Participating, and Adapting« an der TU Wien statt.

As part of the Bauhaus.Module »After the Co(al)lapse: Envision the Future!«, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students were tasked with developing creative concepts for the ecological restoration of a former lignite (sometimes referred to as brown coal) power plant. In December 2023, the student group presented their results at the UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai.

During the nomination process for the 2023 DAAD Prize, the attention of the International Office was brought to a group of international students who are helping refugees from Ukraine in Weimar. The group has been awarded a special prize recognising their dedication. The award includes a cash prize of 1000 euros.

From 9 to 11 November 2023, this year’s annual conference of the Institute for European Urban Studies (IfEU) at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be held on the topic of »Authoritarian Urbanism: Global Manifestations, Knowledge Exchange and Contestation«. Die französische Soziologin, Fotografin und Stadtplanerin Dr. habil. Cécile Cuny ist vom 1. September bis 31. Dezember 2023 DAAD-Gastdozentin am Institut für Europäische Urbanistik. In diesem Zeitraum wird sie unter anderem die Lehre an der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik durch ein Seminar zum Thema »Stadtlogistik in Krisenzeiten« bereichern und ein Kolloquium zu Stadtlogistik in deutsch-französischer Perspektive organisieren.

Twelve young scientists and their mentors from the USA, Poland, Austria and Germany will come to Weimar this August for the »Media Philology 2023« Summer Academy The event will be held from 28 to 30 August in the Bibliothek Julius Petersen of the Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv and will address questions on media studies and philology.
