International Summer with the Bauhaus Summer School 2024
It’s that time again: From 7 to 31 August 2024, 230 students from over 50 countries will be in Weimar to take part in two- to three-and-a-half-week language and specialist courses at the Bauhaus Summer School. Guests are warmly invited to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus for the final presentation on 30 August beginning at 2 pm.
The centre point of this year’s Bauhaus Summer School is the »Deutsch in Weimar« language course, a three-and-a-half-week intensive German course that nearly 110 participants from all over the world have registered for. Around 20 students will receive a full scholarship through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and, thanks to »Bauhaus Career Navigator Funding«, around 40 international students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will also receive subsidies. Divided into six levels, course participants will gain not only languages skills, but will also learn exciting and amusing facts about Germany and German culture.
In addition to the German courses, the Bauhaus Summer School is also offering six specialist courses in the fields of architecture and urbanism, art and design, and technology and the environment. A particularly special highlight is the »Strollolgy – Walking as Creative Practice« course, which will be led by University President Prof. Peter Benz. Based on the theory of walking as an academic and creative practice, participants will test out various walking techniques together with Prof. Benz in order to experience aesthetics, especially landscape aesthetics, in a holistic way, thus promoting the creative process. Their experiences will later be recorded as »Wanderrezepten« (walking recipes). In the »Ecological Infrastructures: The Imperative to Redesign Urban Spaces with Nature« course, students will examine the biological complexity of the urban habitat and look for nature-based solutions in urban planning that counter the effects of climate change. »Design Basics: Exploring User Interface (UI) Design within the Bauhaus Context« course participants explore what visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces for digital platforms should look like.
An Exciting Supporting Programme
The afternoons and weekends offer students the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of leisure activities. City trips, excursions into the countryside, sports, pub nights — there’s something for everyone. The International Dinner on the university campus is a highlight every year: Participants present typical dishes from their home countries and learn about culinary classics from all around the world in a festive atmosphere. Thanks to a cooperation with the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, the city’s museum’s and castles are free of charge for participants this year.
Final Presentation
To wind down the event, participants present the results of their courses. This year’s Bauhaus Summer School final presentation will take place under the slogan »Open Ateliers« on Friday, 30 August. The event kicks off at 2 pm on the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus at Geschwister-Scholl-Straße. All interested parties are welcome to attend.
